Chicago metal scene?

Greetings Rivetheads, Earthdogs and Hellrats,

I'm going to be spending a few nights in Chicago at the end of July and I was hoping some of the Chicagonian's that frequent this site could point me in the right direction. I'm looking for the Chicago metal scene. Preferably places that metal bands play but metal bars (places that just play metal on the jukebox) will do as well. So, where do I want to go to see a metal band? Local or national bands, I don't care ... I just want metal. And please don't point me towards the AllState Arena. Thank you!

Are you staying Downtown, Northside, Southside?

Check out the schedule at Reggie's, Double Door, The Bottom Lounge, the Beat Kitchen, Martyrs, to name a few. There are a good deal of solid cover bands in the area and lots of street fests with live music and all kinds of other fun things to do.

Trouble is playing at Chicago City Limits (Schaumburg) on 7/24.

Cobra Lounge on Ashland, just North of Lake St. is a really
cool place to hang out and hear metal....always seemed like
Fridays were better for hearing good metal via the DJ and
the room has a really nice vibe. They do live shows from
time to time and I've been there when the music wasn't
so hot nor very metal but it's worth taking the chance...prior
to the DJ starting at 10, there is a digital jukebox which rocks!
