Children Of Bodom 20th Anniversary 2017

"They haven't lost anything" next sentence "Have they lost the energy and enthusiasm? Sure looks like it". I mean come on, they're not half as good as they used to be and it was perfectly predictable since AYDY. In fact the majority of bands walk this road, most don't even have 3 good records, just one or two. The impact of being young and full of ideas can't be overestimated.
Most do walk that road yeah, but not all. Stratovarius, Kotiteollisuus and Blind Guardian are all examples of bands that started out IMO as pretty bad but later turned out to be pretty damn good.

I only enjoy BG's first 5 albums, don't like all the opera shmopera orchestra stuff.

I meant they haven't lost Jooonas "magic" secret sauce but rather they've just gotten older and lost all that entails.

Plus, if COB were like Cannibal Corse or Bolt Thrower you'd all be whining about how all albums sound like FTR, hence the need for most bands to do whatever they're going to to and not worry about pleasing a few fans.

Nah, I think they should sound darker than FTR. That's a very unique album that has this nostalgic feeling, like a disco in the world of ghosts. Soundworld is always tied to its composion. I guess what people are missing is the pumping electricity and enchanting atmosphere that used to flow in the songs. For one thing, I think drums were most interesting on FTR and Blooddrunk, while Hatebreeder had the mystical dark feeling that should be in all albums.

So Jooonas, what do you think, or rather, feel and see when you hear AYDY, my favorite COB album?

Certain songs should be remade (RLIME pt 1, Deadnight, Towards, LBRH, PMIB), but unfortunately their current sound is uninspiring, so it's not a good idea, unless they let me tell exactly what changes should be done to those songs.

You honestly need to stop saying things like this. You're so pretentious it actually hurts to read. Stop. Please. For your own sake. The things you say are worse than the comments section on YouTube and on par with those on porn sites.

wrong, I love new CC stuff as much as their classic albums, I like it more in fact because now they got mad skillz and it shows. No one whines when you fucking do good stuff, that's why Skeletal Domain is majorly successful and IWC is not.

:D The symphonic opera stuff is epic. My favorite albums are A Night at the Opera and At the Edge of Time. The first four albums all have a few good songs on them (Each album having more than the one before), but Imaginations from the Other Side is the first one that I consider great from start to beginning.

@dthmtl3 there won't be a new live DVD, sadly. He said that in an interview, not long ago.

Really? Didn't they say last year or so that a new live DVD was in the cards? It does make a lot of sense, although releases of the last 3 albums have been '11, '13 and 15', and a new album in '17 would be their 10th studio album, not a bad way to celebrate their 20th aniversary either.

A short DVD/selected songs from various shows as bonus DVD to a new CD would also be pretty sweet, but then again, that is being creative/giving real extra content, and the music industry isn't very much into that.

They should not remake anything from their first albums, those first three albums are perfect as they are.
What they could do is use them as inspiration and draw ideas from for their future music. That would be perfect for the band and perhaps work as a refreshing restart. CoB use to say they don't want to make the same album twice hence why they left the neoclassical route, but I feel their first three albums are more diverse and unique than their last 6 has been.
