Chinese Democracy?

liked some, didn't like others. really dug 'BETTER'. always a fool for a catchy melody...

having lived through the "first pass" of GNR and played in a million bands in the 80's - i always find it interesting how younger people (the majority on this board, i'm assuming) react to and talk about this era. i'm getting a kick out of this thread.

i honestly don't know why it's cool to knock the 80's. it was just an era of music like the 70's (van halen, kiss, black sabbath, etc.) and all eras before that (stones, beatles, etc). new creativity builds on old. just like art and any other natural evolution of something. take it for what it was. a lot of fucking fun music. some serious, some not. by the count of page hits and listens on the GNR myspace page, i'd say at least a few find the new GNR more than slightly interesting. that must say something. the fact that this thread is present says something.

i dunno. maybe it's time to have a warm glass of milk, take my arthritis medication and go to bed. :heh:

'cause pretty much all 80's music, save metallica/slayer/GnR(and some other noteworthy thrash/death bands) blew total ass

the 80's was total fucking gold when it came to movies, though

I doubt that the 80's knocking is all because 'it's cool' - it's really because, to many of us, the 80's are just begging to be knocked.

Jeff

At least they were much, much more enjoyable than the 90's. :Puke:

Everything was going great until Nirvana came along in late 91 & almost killed Rock 'n Roll. Thankfully, there was Kyuss.... the 90's would have been completely unbearable if they weren't around.
"I did it all for the Nookie" was probably the lowest point in the 90's. I cringed every time I heard that piece of shit!
Plus, the girls went from wearing skin-tight miniskirts to flannel? WTF???

In the 80s, it wasn't just Metallica & Slayer, there were also great albums like British Steel, Powerslave, Operation Mindcrime, all sorts of great shit. Yeah, there was a ton of cheese, but when isn't there?

joe satriani, steve vai and yingwee malmsteen blew ass?

yes, and let us not forget all the very, very tight spandex (hell, i owned 5 pairs myself. yikes!).

btw, this is kinda funny. axel will probably be mysteriously killed in a few days. then the album will go platinum just because...

90's horrible?!?!?!?!?

Soundgarden dude, FUCKING SOUNDGARDEN!

Forget Kyuss. We had Soundgarden in the 90's and they surpass pretty much of all the 80's bands.

I remember a lot of the 80's bands and non of em grabbed me like SG.

Fuck they were a great band.
