The radio station here played about 5 tracks from this album today and I must say that I loved every song. Love the way it sounds but their webpoll said 50% of listeners did not like it. Maybe that's just because it's only Axl but I think it's good. I won't be buying it anytime soon because I gotta get the new Cradle Of Filth and a few other heavier albums but I'm hoping the long wait is worth it. Anyone else heard anything and opinions?

the entire album is on the GNR myspace but i heard most of it on youtube a week or so ago. its a great album

too many ballads,. too many sounds, too many tempo changes in each song.
Overall it has its moments but it's too much to digest. And it's not rock and roll. It's Axl trying to be Elton John.

The first song got me - I was thinking, great, this sounds like old school Appetite for Destruction then it sinks into those horrid piano based ballads.... zzzzzzzzzz

I'm super happy about it too. It's a grower..... great melody, guitar work. Sure some of it is soft but it work well.

I haven't even heard it. It's fucking shit.
Metallica are better than slayer. And they're fucking shit too.
I like that emo stuff, that's much better. Even thought it's fucking crap as well. The cunts.

wow what a great post. nothing shows how smart someone is more than stating "i haven't heard it but it sucks."

Yeah - haven't heard it. But it's really lame. I also haven't checked out the new metallica but that's rubbish as well. Also, there's some really good other albums out there that I haven't even heard, but these are also fucking crap.

Jeez man, don't you know when someone's pulling your chain?....

i thought your sarcasm came across realy well. a+ for that brother!

i'm going to give them album another chance but it's hard for me to get past axl's dying cat screeching.

Terrible terrible album... I agree the first song is good but then it just gets worse and worse. It is just a clusterfuck. Way too many self indulgent over blown ballads. Other songs have moments but are ruined with bigger moments of ridiculousness.. His voice at times is just laughable. He sounds like Mickey Mouse.... There is no cohesiveness to anything. There is no band.. There are like 30 musicians and producers and it sounds like a mess.

I was a HUGE Guns N Roses fan and this is just an embarrassing effort by old Axl..

This album could have been better if the production was good. unfortunately it isnt. The drums throughout the record sound like a drum machine. I don't get the impression that an actual band has recorded this album, i'ts more like Axl has used pro-tools to piece together various guitar and bass parts that were recorded over a period of 10 years. I'm not sure even Axl remembers who actually played the guitar parts that he's used in the final mix.

And what is more strange is that Axl has done no press leading upto the release or even after that.
Is he not interested in promoting the record ?
Did he really want this record to be released or was he presurred into doing it ?

are you serious? this album probably has the best production i've ever heard other than queensryche's empire. i know a few people who hate the album chinese democracy but still say the production is god like.

anyways heres the reason for no press. axl finished the album around 2005. buckethead left and axl added ron "bumblefoot" thal to the album because a lot of fans were posting on GNR message boards that thal should be on there. the album was mixed and handed to geffen in january of 2008. it took geffen more than half a year to deceide how to promote the album (best buy deal) and now that its out its the holiday season and not only is axl with his friends and family for the holidays but because axl said he wasn't going to tour again until the album was released most of the people who play on chinese democracy are already on tour with other bands such as NIN.

Axl might not be promoting it, but Best Buy sure is. I'm sorry when you have commercials consistently on some of the most watched television shows, spots on all the major radio stations, and most major news outlets talking about the album you have a lot of promotion.

The album production does sound good, the album itself is just not that good. Not bad, not great.

To me a record like Libertad has good production.Over-production does not work for me, that is what Chinese Democracy is - an extremely over-produced record. It's been tinkered with too much. I'd be keen to hear these songs played live, i think i'd enjoy them a lot more that way.

Also I'd prefer if Axl had to release this record under his own name rather than GNR. GNR was 5 guys and Axl was just one of them. And no im not talking about who owns the rights to the name. Im talking about the band and what made GNR become one of the biggest rock acts.it was the talents of 5 inidviduals.Slash, Duff, Steven and Izzy gave GNR that kind of 'edge"

The Snakepit records sound more GNRish than Chinese Democracy. Contraband sounds more GNRish than Chinese Democracy.

The current GNR is like Joey Belladonna making a record with his band and calling it Anthrax.

well sorry but axl has been the only original member of guns n roses since izzy left in 1991. GNR had 4 different lineups before use your illusions were even released. it was axl and izzy's band. if you look at the songwriting credits more than half of the GNR catalog is written by axl and izzy. megadeth has about 7 recorded lineups and people still say its megadeth. people who don't like chinese democracy are people who either really want a reunion of the appetite for destruction or use your illusion lineups or hate when a band shows any musical progress
