is anyone else gaga over the drum sound this album?

as far as personal taste, i love andy and the overpowering "power" sound that are behind so many of my fav metal albums but my top sound that i personalyl like is the warm production techniques of machine.

i remember when the album came out i think i started a thread and a lot of people obviously due to the orientation as far as production taste here were not too crazy about it. but it's been almost a year so maybe there are some fans here of the band, album, producer, or specifically speakign the drums on that album (sacrament)

ps - the guitars, their attack and clarity is also out of this world IMO.

the whole albm is just so sick, def my fav metal album of all time (yes you heard right)

yeah... haven't changed my mind. i stopped listening to lamb of god when that album came out. I was getting fed up already but sacrament was the final straw:lol: different strokes of course, don't let me sway your opinion :saint:

I think it's great from a songwriting standpoint, but I've grown to dislike the mix more and more since I first heard it, actually.

It's almost like they went for a super vibey sound, but got the wrong vibe or something.

Personally I don't dig the production that much. It sounds a bit too... clear. Everything is so defined and sterile that the mix doesn't sound very solid or powerful. Also I hate that snare sound, it's way too dead for my liking :)

I don't know if that makes any sense to you, and it's just my humble opinion, but hey...

I think the Sacrament-sound is the logic advancement of the Ashes of the Wake. It´s dry and tight as fuck and just nails it. Not my favourite kind of sound at all, but amazing in it´s style.

all valid points. i appreciate everyone respecting each otehrs opinion by the way. major +1 for that. usually people are so non understanding of the concept of personal taste. i could DEF see where a mix like sacrament might not be liked by someone with different taste. IMO though the drum sound for me in unmatched as far as what i've heard. it has like a hollow warm vibe to it yet has plenty of attack. the kick is deep and clicky at the same time and i simply love that black panther snare.

the songwriting also stands out for me because of one word and one word only: UNCONVENTIONAL. their older albums were more raw, aggresive, heavy, and more breakdownish but i love the linear songwriting of sacrament and while everyone always points out how good albums stand out and are uniue i really think this one, for better or worse, love it or hate it really does stand out. i'm sure even the folks here that don't like it taste wise will attest that it very unorthodox for a metal album. that is also machines approach, he doesn;t like typical metal recordings.

just my 2 cents, i just really enjoy the album on every level from sonicness (production) to the songs themselves. i myself like so much music and proggy stuff as well real heavy stuff and this album is a perfect balance. they are one of the few bands that i like their stuff as they progress chronologically as opposed to the other way around, them and probably opeth. they are the only bands i can think of where while i like their entire catalogue (balckwater park, as the palaces burn are really great albums) i like their latter and more mature approaches better (sacrament, ghost reveries)

thanks and sorry for long post

I think this is an awesome mix. Sacrament and Ashes of The Wake are two of my favorite albums. I suppose that one of the reasons I have grown to like the mixes so much is because it is so clear.
I come from the school of Paul Gilbert Wannabees and being able to hear what is going on with all of the instruments (IMHO) is a vital thing.

I dig the snare sound, and the kit as a whole.

I dig the guitar sound: bass to the lead.

Just my humble opinion. But I am in your corner!

Good thread. Good opinions.

I personally love Sacrament (same goes for AITW). The one thing I always think to when I hear it, is that it doesn't sound like anything else. It's distinctive, has a tremendous amount of depth, and I hear new things in the production and arrangements every time I listen to it.

I just wish they'd finally get off tour so they can start work on the next album! Somehow I doubt they'll go with Machine again as they've probably gone down that route as far as they can go.

Yeah, even though the production doesn't quite suit my taste, it does serve the songs (and the band) really well. It definately makes the album stand out, and I guess it's becoming a bit of a trademark for them. That's always cool. Also I really dig Randy's vocals, the guy sounds fucken' brutal.

Sorry if the post was hard to understand, I'm pretty drunk since I ran into an old friend tonight and we spent the evening at a local bar :/

as much as i like the drums he really did the biggest OVERHAUL WITH THEM with randy and how his vocals were arranged on the album. just paying attention to minor details on overdubs and vocal "grace notes" and harmony it is unbelievable. it is the most impressive in my book. one of the reasons sacrament is so different not only from any metal album but any lamb of god album is because of the vocals and how much of a melodic feel they have without being melodic. also there are a lot of synth vocal pads and stuff which help set the mood so it kind of fits into the vocal context as well.

I love the mix, form my opinion is punchy and clear and for me is perfect for L.O.G, and I dig a lot the durm kit. Remember that this type of mix sound different compared to a lot of metal production that I hear in this ultimate time.
sorry for my language.
