hello

i was browsing the daddario website and found the XL Chromes Flat Wound that appears to be very mellow ones.

have anyone tried them for metal? i really really am curious to see how they sound..

I think flatwounds are more common for like jazz ... as you said yourself they appear to be very mellow ... so how would that work for metal unless maybe you were using them for very mellow parts or something similar?

I would avoid flatwounds for any type of metal

I tried them for a bit on a jazz bass, but I didn't like the tone. Less upper mids/highs and bottom end, leaving you with a dull tone and an emphasis on low mids.

I also didn't like the feel. They feel really smooth, but not in a good way to me.

yeah Skinny Viking, i think a mellow tone would be cool for metal.

i ordered new strings yesterday, but i found them today.
if anyone could get them and try them it would be nice.

My buddy bought them for his fretless. The flat wounds sit better on the fretboard and increase sustain. Actually sounds very nice, but like Skinny Viking said, they are a bit more Jazz tone based.

you mean fretless bass, not guitar right?

why do you think more mellow tones aren't good for metal?
it would sound really nice IMO.

@Skinny Viking Something's seriously wrong with you dude. I came here gently asked for something but I didn't forced anyone so relax.

I actually just ordered 7 string flat wounds for my 7620 but i wanted it more for jazzy stuff then metal. Flat wound's just don't work for metal at all not enough crispy high end bite on flat wounds.

They work super awesome brosef, I was able to get more low end than low end into my pod tone with these things.
And they have an awesome high end too, check out ma clipz

I can also send you some of my kick samples for free if you want bro
