So, lately, I've made a handful of albums more enjoyable by trimming the fat, even though I used to think that cutting an album short was pretty much blasphemy. Some examples:

Removed "Reborn" and "Epidemic" from Reign In Blood
Removed "Invaders", "The Prisoner", and "Gangland" from Number Of The Beast
Removed a few tracks from both Blood Fire Death and Hammerheart (I really only care about the epics and a couple of other tracks anyway)

I'm also considering trying Beyond Sanctorum without the progressive touches as I find the pure death metal tracks far more enjoyable anyway.

So yea, what are some albums you enjoy more after skipping/removing certain tracks?

I actually thought of that. It definitely doesn't really fit with the album, but yea, I love it too much to skip.

why would anyone remove anything from reign in blood :/ although if they did, it prob should be criminally insane i reckon, not those two.

i like feeling free again too tbh, but also agree it doesn't fit.

most classic albums have at least one not so great track.

Interesting thread.

Mayhem - Cursed In Eternity
Slayer - Necrophobic
Metallica - The Shortest Straw

These ones are the first that come to my mind, but probably I'll add someone later.

Slipknot's Vol.3 could have done without The Virus of Life. It's just sludgy, indistinct and not catchy at all.

Led Zeppelin IV should have omitted Misty Mountain Hop and Four Sticks.

Master of Puppets would have been better without Damage, Inc. Orion would have been a better ending.

Yeah I agree with Cursed in Eternity, that song just makes me cringe sometimes. There are a few parts that just don't work in that song. Love every other song on De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas though.

Also "A Timeless Heart" by Pentagram on Be Forewarned.

Deleted my previous post because I was about to contradict myself when I started thinking of numerous examples immediately afterwards.

Entombed's Left Hand Path would be much better with at least two tracks taken off. The pacing and track order is a problem, too. The title track should definitely be the closer.

Dawn's Slaughtersun would be better off without one of the middle songs. Probably 'Ride the Wings of Pestilence'.

Dissection's The Somberlain is another good example of terrible pacing. The title track should be last and one of the interludes cut out altogether.

I could do without Second and Third Prayer on Deathspell Omega's Si Monumetum Requires, Circumspice.

Will post more as I think of them.

Not a classic album but I feel compelled to say that Agalloch's latest album would be best without that last track. Bloodbirds just has such an epic ending that the following noisy and lengthy outro does far more harm than good in context.

Edge of Sanity - Purgatory Afterglow should have the last song, Song of Sirens, cut off.

Anathema - Serenades should also have the last song, Dreaming: the Romance removed, as it was in the single disc version of Serenades + The Crestfallen.

Woods of Ypres - Woods IV: The Green Album should have had most of the first half removed.
