Cleaning guitar strings - how do you?

How do you clean guitar strings while they're still on? I'm using fast fret and it works well.

If I have to clean them, I usually change them.

Be careful before you play; wash your hands if they're dirty 'cause it'll ruin brand new set of string quick.

I wash my hands before playing and I wipe down the strings with fastfret before and after every time I play. I've lately come to really like to put fastfret on and just keep it like that for playing.

yeah wash your hands before playing and when the strings sound dull and old, change them. cleaning strings never worked for me.

Interesting! What about a water wet cloth? Like detuning the strings, getting them out of the nut and rubbing them with the wet cloth.

Wash my hands before playing, occasionally wipe the strings down with a dry cotton cloth when done playing.
