FOUND SOMEWHERE:

Colin does indeed rule all things metal.

I had the pleasure of doing ProTools and showing him the basics of 5.1 mixing on the Slipknot live DVD "Disasterpieces" (on a Neve VR, no less). I think it was his first 5.1 mix, and he just wanted a little guidance. He didn't need any help with the stereo mix.

In return, I learnt a lot about mixing 'extreme' music, and a cool little trick with a Dolby SR unit to get an even heavier guitar sound ....

And you couldn't hope to meet a nicer guy ....

more:

"Maybe it's something about the emphasis/de-emphasis EQ involved in those kind of noise reduction units?"

"Yes, it is indeed to do with the emphasis circuits. Just like using a Dolby 'A' on encode-only on an aux send for getting some 'air' into vocals, try using an SR unit on encode only ....

Doesn't work for everything, but when it does, it's great!"

Are you sure it wouldn't sound better with dubly instead?
