Hey guys!

Iced Dog and I recently invented the genre-name "Coma Drama" (in this thread). In those Coma Dramas it's all about those "place inside of someone's head while in a coma"-stories.

The first Coma Drama I discovered was Ayreon's "The Human Equation" and it totally blew my mind! From that moment on I realized that this concept somehow overwhelms me emotionally more than I had expected before. So I started to collect all stories that are like that. It's so awesome that the new Seventh Wonder is a perfect Coma Drama, too! I also found some other hospital-related stories which I think are equally great. For now, the titles I found out about are:

Music:
Ayreon · The Human Equation
Seventh Wonder · Mercy Falls
Amaran's Plight · Voice In The Light (no Coma Drama, just a Hospital Love Story)

Books:
Alex Garland · The Coma
Tino Hemmann · Das Gutböse Reich: Der gestohlene Amethyst (German only)
Jutta Schöps-Körber · Die tausendundzweite Nacht (German only)
Philip K. Dick · A Maze Of Death
Philip K. Dick · Eye In The Sky
Philip K. Dick · Ubik

Films:
Vanilla Sky
Abre Los Ojos · Open Your Eyes (the Original version of "Vanilla Sky")
Identity (no Coma Drama, just inside one's head)
The Cell (no Coma Drama, just inside one's head)
Being John Malkovich (no Coma Drama, just inside one's head - literally, this time!)
The Wizard Of Oz

TV Series:
BBC · Life On Mars
BBC · Ashes To Ashes
Life On Mars US (a rather bad remake of the UK series...)

Games:
American McGee's Alice
Sanitarium

So if anyone knows any other stories like that, please tell me, I'd be so grateful! :)

Hey, thanks for the idea!! I just read some reviews on Amazon - it sounds really cool! Time to check out some episodes! Thank you a lot!!

I love the Human Equation. It's was the first full album I heard from Ayreon (then I got the rest) I love how that story progresses and the the last song just rocks!

I have a suggestion, it's not comma drama, but has the same feeling: Spock's Beard - Octane. The main character is not in comma, but he sees his whole life flash before his eyes at the moment he has a car accident.

Cheers :kickass:

Yeah, The Human Equation was my first Ayreon-album, too! :) After that I got The Dream Sequencer and nowadays I have all of them.

Hey, thanks! I actually have never listened to many Spock's Beard albums (especially not the ones without Neal Morse), but I'll go check that one out! The concept sounds nice!

Yeah, well, there is definitely a difference from with-Neal and post-Neal, but it's also because the band has evolved. While it's not metal, all of SP is very proggy and the post-Neal albums sound closer to metal, but not quite yet.

Indeed three wonderful albums, Ayreon's one is my favorite. I don't feel going over a subject diminish the value of an album so for me any band can keep doing hospital/coma albums (as long as they're well crafted).

How about the book "Alice in Wonderland"? It's pretty comatose. And now that I mentioned comatose, The Mars Volta's album "Deloused in the Comatorium" could also be put in here (I think).

really?
by like eppisode 3 or 4 theres only about four possible endings in sight and listing it here narrows it down to one.
but to be honest i had it set as him being completly insane untill the last eppisode.
