Anyone heading to this and have room for a last-minute roommate or travel buddy?

I just found out that one of my favorite performers of all time is making an incredibly rare U.S. appearance and I will probably hate myself for life if I don't make it.

I only intend to go to the Saturday performance, but I can find plenty to keep me occupied the rest of the time if required (like Neil Gaimon's reading!!!!)

Sure wish I knew about this sooner! :erk: :erk: :hotjump: I just need all you anime/comic/sci-fi/fantasy con-goers to send me updates when your event features ANY musical act from Japan! Chances are I LOVE the band but don't even know about the convention!

Anyway, I'm dying here!!!! Anyone going??? Got any suggestions for a girl that's never been to New York, knows no one there (wait, there's Milton & Kaosaur!), and is desperate to make a whirlwind trip in and out of the city? o_O

Pfft, Milton wishes he were from NYC. I, however, do live there (here? :p) Feel free to hit me up if you're thinking of coming, would be cool to see you at a time other than ProgPower :)

LOL I'm close enough to NY to consider being from the NYC area.

Yet, a proud Boston Red Sox fan.
Anyways, I'd love to attend Comicon, but don't think I'll be able to make that happen... :(

Wow. T.M.R....that's amazing. Not enough to get me to go though (edit: actually, I just might) :p

I think I could host for the weekend. Hit me up on AIM sometime.
One thing to know about NY Comic Con though: Plan on camping out the night before. They regularly go over capacity in the first few hours of the show and turn THOUSANDS of people away at the door. (EDIT: This was a big fiasco in '06. I think they fixed the issue with ticket pre-sales last year but I'm not sure. I know they definitely sold out on Saturday last year though...not sure what the ticketing situation is like this year.)

Thank you, sweetheart! I sure will contact you! It's a cheaper flight to leave on Monday instead of Sunday (almost $100 cheaper) but I don't know if I will be interested in attending the con that day so perhaps I can spend a day in NY with some friends! It would be really great to see you and the rest of the NY PP Family!

Milton, say it ain't so!!! Are you close enough to go for one day, or to put up a cute Texan for a night? Or pick her up form the airport? :p

Man, I'm desperate here! I'm pretty much going to kill myself if I don't go to this, so I guess I better resort to practically begging. I'm a fangirl for very few people, but this man just happens to top the list :loco: :loco:

YAY!.. awww! :( ... YAAY!! -- what a rollercoaster sentance, my friend! I'm delighted someone else at least knows T.M.R.! :p

I will definitely take you up on that! Now by host, do you mean "show you around town and accompany you" or "sure, you can crash at my place"? What I need most are cheap ways to get to and from the airport and a place to stay, but I would really like a pal to go to the show with too :) Do I have your AIM? Mine is: Tammy J Zepp and I'm also on Skype: sh0kr0k

I'll be buying my event ticket online before I leave Dallas. Actually I will buy it before I buy the plane ticket. In the event that I can't scrape up enough $ to make it, I'd rather be stuck with a $45 comicon ticket than buy a $412 plane ticket to NY and find out the event is sold out :zombie:

Anyone accepting bribes for airport pick-up/drop-off or a place to crash? :hotjump: :hotjump:

Man, wish I could go. I've been to plenty of Comicons with my Father (who is one of the best Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Horror artists in the country). I've been around the scene my entire life. Neil Gaiman is also a great author. I have a personalized copy of "Neverwhere", which is one of my favorite books of all time. In the autograph he told me to "Mind the Gap". :)

Hope you guys have a blast.

Jason

We briefly discussed attending before but my fiance may be stuck not being able to leave the area because of work so it's unlikely we'll end up attending.

Oh? Do tell. :)

Neil Gaiman is awesome. Not only is he a big fan of an author friend of mine, but my legs fell asleep while we were all watching the U.S. premiere of Neverwhere.....in his hotel room at Dragon*Con, along with about ten other people. And not enough chairs to sit in. :) :kickass:

"Mind the Gap,' however, is definitely something that has to be heard to be appreciated....in those deep, stentorian tones. :D

Meanwhile, about NY ComicCon....... Whew, a con in Javits Center. THAT takes some dough. And patience. And then some more dough.

Drat! Two less in the mix :( Well, if I can make this all work, I only plan to attend one day of the con but might leave on Monday when tickets are cheaper. So I'd have time on Sunday to have a get together if you're available for that! I don't really spend any $ on Sundays but I'm sure we could all put our heads together to think of something :)

I'm sure something could be worked out :p Hit me up with some details
Awesome! PM me your AIM or Skype! Kaosaur has offered his place for me to stay, but to be honest, since I don't know my way around I'd love to meet someone at the airport to at least ride the subway with o_O:cry::ill:

Hey Girl!

When is it? I'm only a few hours away and if I can make time, I'd get out.

What Jason said! 'cept I am only focused on Saturday the 19th. I've been toying with the idea of flying in on Thursday and out on Monday (two days that are the cheaper for flights than Fri & Sun) regardless of whether I go to other con sessions, but that might be a bit imposing on my wonderful host. :)

I would L.O.V.E. it if you came too! Or at least on Sunday for a hang out! I doubt any of you besides Kaosaur would like the show I'm going to, and I'm pretty focused on that, but I would love to make the most of the trip and enjoy the convention as much as I can! :)

Unless there are massive amounts of T.M. Revolution merchandise, I don't think I'll need to worry about extra expenses. I have to cough up the change for the plane flight, con ticket (say, you don't happen to have any hook-ups there do ya, Paul?), food money, and bribe money.. other than that, I will have to restrain myself.

*looks around* I think I got all the messages! :p

I love you guys! Thanks for all the help! I'm not usually like this, but I'm so serious that I'm calling in all my favors  If all else fails, I'm gunning for Japan in May for this: hide Memorial Summit :loco: :worship: That is a lineup that my dreams are made of!

Well, my father's been drawing practically his entire life, mainly for small press science fiction & fantasy magazines (including Isaac Asimov's Sci-Fi Mag, Fantasy & Science Fiction, Weird Tales, Cemetary Dance, and many more).

He's won countless awards (such as the SPWAO Newsletter award for being the best fantasy artist in the country an astounding 10 years in a row). He won best artist at the 2002 World Fantasy Convention and returned to the 2003 Convention as the Artist Guest of Honor. He's even illustrated an insider biography for Stephen King (who was said to be very impressed with the work, but it was limited in number and wasn't something you'd ever see for sale at the big chain stores). He recently started his own run of magazines as well entitled "Allen K.'s Inhuman" that consists of classic stories in the genre with his accompanying illustrations. Unfortunately, he hasn't been able to catch that one break that would change everything and lead him to the fame and fortune he deserves.

He continues to attend as many conventions as possible in order to network, sell his art and do what makes him happy. I've had the fortune of being able to attend numerous conventions with him up and down the east coast throughout my life and he's always been extremely well received wherever he goes.

His website hasn't been updated in a couple years due to his schedule and overwhelming pressure he's been under to meet magazine deadlines, but there's still a nice sampling over there:

Hey, that's cool!

Tammy, I was referring to the expense of putting on a convention at Javits Center, not so much the costs of attending.....although that's probably all rolled up into the costs you pay.

Sidebar: Derek/Ruthven's good friend and NYT bestselling author Sherrilyn Kenyon will be at NY ComiCon, so if any of y'all go, be sure to say 'hi'. She's good people. :)

Dark One, that is so cool!! I can't remember if I saw his name on the schedule. will he be there in some capacity?

HOLY COW!!! I L.O.V.E. her books! The Dream-Hunter is at the top of my favorites list and I just bought the rest in the series. Why did I not know she was going to be there? Hmm.. Well I guess I kinda have blinders on

Nah, not this year. He was actually a guest at one of their prior conventions a few years ago and he indicated the business end was lukewarm due to the convention being more geared towards the comic book end as opposed to the sci-fi/fantasy end. In addition, my Dad indicated getting to and from the convention lugging all the artwork and supplies was extremely difficult on the busy New York streets. Even though he received a free pass at the hotel and as an art dealer, he still needed to provide his own transportation and parking, which he said was a nightmare. He did say as a fan though, it would be a great convention to attend. :)

Interesting footnote - the reason my Father was given the guestpass that year was that the guy who runs the convention visited our house the year before to buy a ton of merchandise from my Father's comic book collection. At the time, my Father didn't even know the guy was connected to the convention, he was just responding to an ad my Dad placed in an insider publication and came to visit as a result.

Well it's official! I leave in the morning and will arrive in NYC at 7pm.. staying until Monday at about 3pm. Can't believe it all came together! :headbang: Special love for Kaosaur, Manowarfan1, and shaq who all went the extra mile for me! The PP family is awesome! :p

T.M. REVOLUTION, HERE I COME!!! WOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

Tammy, FYI, Sherrilyn Kenyon posted that she has an entire Dark-Hunter booth at NY Comic-Con, and aside from any other scheduled appearances on panels or whatnot, she should be there most of the time. Should not be too hard to find. :)

Tell her 'hi' from Derek; I don't think she knows me all that well, though. :heh:
