Just listening to Devin's 'Ziltoid...' album for the first time in ages... and I totally hear that it uses DFH. (having not owned DFH when this album was released). Haha - I think that's going to annoy me very slightly from now on, recognising the samples (snare in particular).

Great album in places though, musically bridging SYL and Dev's solo projects. Ocean Machine, City and Terria still push my buttons the most, but there's no denying Dev's loony entertainment/originality factor.

"I must rise, I must find a way... for this, Ziltoid must surely pay!"
Did anyone else actually feel patriotic while listening to Solar Winds?

Cool, didn't know the guitar is POD on Ziltoid. I'm not great at PODs, I'm not even a guitarist, but I would never have been able to tell it was a POD.

And yes, the drums sound fucked up now that we've heard it from 3419 guys from the forum etc etc, but the album is fucking amazing. Oh wait, pretty much everything this fucker has done is! =)

It's really only the kick on ZtO that drives me bonkers, the rest I don't mind. And I like the album, but like so much of Devin's stuff I feel it goes on WAY too long sometimes (especially the middle/end of "Solar Winds" and "Color Your World" - plus, the dynamic changes there really bother me for some reason; I don't like brickwalling, but I also like consistency)

I found everything to still have that "drum machine" sound to it, especially the cymbals, and again, in context of what I know DFHS can accomplish. The program really shines when you play with the dynamics and timing (ie don't program everything to an exact grid!)

Yeah, not just that, I don't really get why he used the DFH expansion of EZ Drummer instead of DFHS or 2.0. Would've sounded a lot better.

Devin posted on his forum that it was ezdrummer and the DFH expansion, and PODxt for all guitars. Treadplate amp & cab, 57 on axis, and screamer stomp.

How anyone could think it was DFHS is beyond me - I've put tracks from this album into Cubase and written drums in ezdrummer to match them, and they sound IDENTICAL to the finished product. Seriously, the only difference at all was a bit of overall brightness from mastering.

And honestly, I don't give a fuck what he used on this album. The production is more than adequate, and I actually really dig the guitar tone. This album is just even more proof (as if we needed it) that songwriting > production value. Devin took cheaper gear than most people on this forum have and wrote a killer album - not many can say they did that!

Quoted for trooth!

Wow, great Pod tone then! I see what Ermz means about Line 6 stuff working much better in a mix than Revalver, even if Revalver sounds more realistic...
