Comparing sm57 to sm58...tech question...

I've heard/read that he only difference between the 57 and 58 is the 58 has the cap. If you unscrew the cap off of the 58 does it sound eactly like a 57? Are the parts inside an the make up of the mics all exactly same? Anyone ever compared recording the two?

On the Prodigy Pro forum for DIYers they had a thread concerning the SM57 Mod that was in a recent TapeOp Magazine.

Someone was asking if they tried it on a SM58 and asked about the difference of the mics, I remember someone said it's wired slightly different inside.

That and there's the obvious pop filter which probably has the biggest effect on the sound. Not sure what else.
