Totally opinion based but I think a lot of people are giving passes here. Excellent artwork for ride the lightning or consuming impulse? Every song on some of these other albums is good? I'm looking for the best of the best, albums where it's difficult to find any flaw

Consuming Impulse has cool artwork.

Ants on a face is not my definition of cool but whatevs, I guess it has that 'bad underground art' charm to you guys. It's at least better than ride the lightning omg an electric chair with lightning bolts so clevar

I think that the album art of Outer Isolation is boring. The most memorable thing about it for me is all of the snot green in it. Different people like different things.

I will agree with you that Ride the Lightning has a boring album cover.

Outer Isolation also has a cool cover and I can see why people can dislike Consuming Impulse artwork. It's really simple and not very difficult to create but it suits the album atmosphere.

Yeah agreed. I did say totally opinion based. Outer isolation has an awesome cover imo. Landscape on an alien planet, astronaut being levitated by some unknown force, cool logo. Very interesting for a sci fi nerd like myself.

I know at least one guy that considers the Consuming Impulse cover to be the greatest in all of metal. It may look kinda amateur/simple compared to other OSDM covers but that doesn't make it any worse than Spiky Seagrave World v23.

EDIT: Oh, and Ride the Lightning was always a favorite of mine in terms of its cover. I'm sure a lot of that is nostalgia now, but whatevs, I'm trying to scrutinize it right now and can't fault it. The message is simple and obvious, but so what? Although I just noticed for the first time ever that the chrome band logo has a reflection of a mountain ridge, lol. It's at least an 8/10 cover for me.

the colour scheme is perfect for that album methinks. maybe it's conceptually kind of lame, but it's the kind of cover that has a cool aura if you don't examine it too closely, which i didn't when i first got into metallica, so all's good.

Pestilence did not want to use the cover for Consuming Impulse, but roadrunner made them. And roadrunner are basically a rip off label as far as I know.
