Conquest of Steel – Hammer and Fist

Ssssssssstttttttttteeeeeeeeeeeeeeellllllllllllllll!!!!!!!!!!!! I really liked this album, hehe! Conquest of Steel are a British heavy/battle metal band who are becoming pretty damn well known on the live music circuit. They have quite an early Maiden sound but with more of a focus on war/battle and general bloodthirstyness!! The album overall is good, but the latter half, from about ‘Warriors Guide’ onwards is much much better (make an exception however for ‘Lamentations of War’ which has a pretty sweet guitar lick). The first few songs seem to borrow a bit too heavily from earlier classic heavy metal/power metal bands and don’t really seem to have a unique Conquest sound. Don’t get me wrong, this doesn’t make them sound bad, but it’s definitely not new territory and not exactly awe inspiring. If Conquest of Steel can vary their sound a little from the stereotypical and standard power metal and battle metal stuff, then they certainly have the ability and talent to do extremely well in the heavy music scene. The album also needs a little more production work to get it completely up to scratch, but this shouldn’t detract too much from the enjoyment of listening to it.
