I saw a couple new songs live when they opened for Mastodon and they were pretty good, hard to take it in though live. I think the album might have leaked... I'm gonna check.

I'm not in the mood that often though, but theres this atmosphere/mood their music creates that I don't really get from anything else. Also they have a few slower, kinda doomier tracks that are always awesome and different than their usual stuff. Maybe you'd like some of those songs.. check out "Jane Doe" (the track that actually got me interested in them) "Phoenix in Flight" "In Her Shadow" and "Grim Heart/Black Rose"(which is from the new album) if you're interested in hearing some of their different sounding tunes. Those are some of my favorite tracks.
I definitely see why people don't like them though, I didn't always.

Not my thing, and Ive heard this sorta stuff before. My mates are really into this sorta stuff but its never grabbed me.

harsh vocals. heavy distorted guitars. occasional odd time signatures. heavy metal roots, but both transcend their given genres in various respects and circumstances.

But Opeth's harsh vocals and distorted guitars have a completely different sound and are performed in a way that has nothing to do with Converge's. Converge doesn't transcend their genre either. I'm not a fan of this type of music, but I've heard it done 100x better by other bands.NineFeetUnderground said:

I never said Opeth is SOOOOO much different. But I think we could agree there is enough differences for one to like one band and not the other? I never said this band was bad either btw, just not my thing.
