Converge, No Heroes preview

But Opeth's harsh vocals and distorted guitars have a completely different sound and are performed in a way that has nothing to do with Converge's. Converge doesn't transcend their genre either. I'm not a fan of this type of music, but I've heard it done 100x better by other bands.

im not saying they sound just like eachother. im just clarifying that you made it seem like Opeth sounds like free-form jazz, and converge sounds like puff daddy. when in fact theyre similar indeed.

and that would have been true of converge in the past...but you obviously havent heard much of the new material. which shows.

I didn't say they were THAT different, maybe you got the wrong impression. I meant they were on completely different sides of the metal spectrum. And no, I haven't heard much of Converge past or present. I was only referring to this song.

I can listen to about any extreme band thinking it is a Beatles record ( I find Nile quite poppy/ top 40 at times)but the Converge album I heard (Jane Doe) destroyed my ears and mind.

Their sound is so fucking crusty, abravise and dissonant.

I had trouble to finish the record and after that I had a bad headache.

Do they have mellow stuff ( I think the last song on Jane Doe was with clean vocals but I was pretty much deaf at that point so memories are blurry ...) ???

I would call it serial killers music ...

That's where you're wrong. Few "metalcore" bands have pulled off what Converge do. If a band sounds like Converge, its most likely because they're ripping them off.

And I'm very happy to see nfu SOMEWHAT supporting Converge in this thread. It almost brings a tear to my eye.

they have a few mellow songs i believe. the song 'in her shadow' comes to mind. flowers and razorwire alternates a bit, and i believe he actually sings in it, cant remember.

Ive always liked Converge. I've yet to check out the new album, but I'm sure it won't dissappoint. And yes, of course, the vocals can be quite difficult to digest.

And LMFAO at converge not 'transcending' their genre. they basically CREATED their fucking genre.

Serial killer music is Dog Fashion Disco.

Strange, strange band, I could fully see DFD fan going on a murderous rampage.

As for "actually" serial killer music, Helter Skelter anybody?

By the way this Converge are still awful. Last time I listened to them they were a hideously bad hardcore band, now they're just a hideously awful metal band.

Just heard this album and Converge has never sounded so accesible to me. I think it is due to the album having a slight thrash edge to the grind (like the Bolt Thrower style riffs in the track Vengeance or Plagues and stuff similar to the Broken Vow) and some straightforward riffs like in the latest Cave In.

Maybe I should give it some more listens, but this seems best of the year material.

I'd like to know which, coz with the exception of Orchid in some of their songs, nothing I've heard comes close to Converge in their genre.

The Dilinger Escape Plan, for example. I don't know if they actually are from the same genre, but they sound sound like they have at least some things in common.

hmm, ok. The DEP are indeed good. But I like Converge better. And maybe you should check out this album as it is much more metally than Jane Doe.

^ And funnily enough, serial killers music is probably more likely to be the beatles

eg, Charles Manson.

last i checked, charles manson wasnt a serial killer.

i actually like some of mansons music though, hallways of always in particular.
