Oh man I want to fucking punch that guitarist right in the dick.

Yeah... rest assured there are many more episodes with many more musicians you'd want to punch...

IMO its just cool to see the many different creative processes at work on these different episodes.

That video is exactly why I would NEVER make it as a professional AE.

The only people I could tolerate throughout the entire video were the bassist and the keyboardist. Jeff - I would most definitely punch that guitarist in the dick ESPECIALLY if I had to sit through that shitty song all day.

The video itself was good though - will defo check out some of the other vids up there.

On one of the vids he actually says ....

This is an La2A Compressor ... it doesnt get much use ... WTF .. Then give it to me bitch!

bahahah!! i saw that... maybe because he feels no one deserves it.

:tickled:

i have never seen this before... this is a great show! they should put it on cable. like DIY network (or something)!

moe was helpful as a producer... but he came off a bit pushy.

you could see that the band (as a whole) decided to do it the way they wanted.

i have worked with engineers that are really pushy (real pita). the guitarist is just protective over the music he writes.

if he didn't have an open mind... he wouldn't have tried it the way the producer wanted it.

honestly, i have seen worse musicianship.

and personally, i think they sucked the life out of that demo. (in my opinion, the demo sounds better)

Actually, the more I watch, the more I'm really not into that Moe guy as a producer/person. He seems like that pushy, borderline hippy-dippy, awkward geek stereotype of a producer/Dream Theater fan. Just not the kind of guy I would want telling me what to do as an artist.

I felt the same in the beginning, he goes far beyond the level of "enforcement" I ever would, but then again he's a producer and I'm not
The bands hired him to be their producer so what would they expect? If they don't like his way of working they wouldn't hire him I guess.. And he's right (imho), the bands are just so used to "their" version of the song they will be overly protective even if they know his version is better.
I was actually more amazed how little impact he has on the songs. Probably we don't get to see most of his working process.

that's how i felt.

I'm friends with Wayne the "assistant" in the show aka staff engineer at MWS. He was in my class at their school.

In the latest episode Moe seems really butt hurt when they don't want to listen to his ideas. Lawrence doesn't really care.

This show IS on TV, but Aux is a cable/satellite channel that only comes in a crappy bundle so no one watches it.

You guys probably won't learn anything but should probably have a laugh watching it.

one of the band members said something important... (paraphrasing) "if you don't like the drum sound, change it... don't change the arrangement of the chorus because you don't like it."

it's not like this guy is nigel godrich or george martin.

in order to change the "arrangement" of someone's song... there needs to be a sense of trust and respect that takes years to form.

this moe guy is far too presumptuous to think these kids are gonna trust him.

it's a little high-and-mighty if you ask me.

I think it's part of the agreement to go on the show. They do get to record for free, get publicity (that is if anyone watches the show). The band wasn't too interested in improving their sound either.

so band hires producer, doesn't want to change the song, doesn't want it to sound better.
I think Moe was rightfully annoyed by the situation. Especially since they seemed to agree with him in the rehearsal and changed their mind once they got to the studio making the day of pre-production completely pointless.
