We've been migrated into a network which for security reasons *cough cough the magic words which open the financial coffers* is a rigidly controlled environment, I.e. Workstations are essentially dummies, all software is on servers, and if you don't have justification you don't get software loaded to your hard drive or permissions to server hardware.

I do enough creative stuff at work so I've been booned certain permissions (and when the software loader wandered off to talk on her cell, I loaded firefox, otherwise I would be posting like 5 percent of my current level for good or ill
