Crate opinions?

What do you guys think of Crate amps are they usefull and do they have a good metal tone?

i just want to know if they are worth to buy. i mean i never heard one and if i remember i never saw one used by metalbands.
some amps are shit and other amp are just cool pieces...

CRATE GX 130 C = Cannibal Corpse[Jack Owen] (Vile and Bleeding)

CRATE GT3500H = Pig Destroyer (Don't know what albums)

Blue Voodoo 120 = Marty Friedman (Cryptic Writings/Risk)

There was some massive Blue Voodoo with some ungodly power output (like 300w if I remember) that wasn't around for very long. I know Dope was using them, and thier live tone was OK...but nothing to jump up and down about.

Again, still vague. Are you interested in Solid State, Tube, combos, heads, etc???

Anyone can say "Mashalls are good" when in fact it's not entirely true. Brand-naming doesn't answer the question, IMO.

Well, I've got on of their former top-of-the-line cabs (out of production) with Seventy80s that I like and therefore use a lot. (Only live though...) Never liked the Blue Voodoo but the Flexwave thingies are IMO decent tools for cheap practising means... much worse solid state amps out there.

The Excalibur heads are not bad for solid state. Don't think they're made anymore, though. Very Randall-ish sounding. First actual "head" I ever owned.

Weren't the Crate Stealth heads designed by Lee Jackson supposed to be pretty good?

This is true however it is fair to say that 99% of C-Rates (did you know they named it that for that reason? Even SLM knew they were junk)suck ass.
The 1% that dont suck ass cost as much as a real amp, so go buy a real amp.

I'll never understand kids dropping $400 on a shitty new crate when they could get a 5150 for $500 and rule ass.

The V series and Blackhearts are actually very solid amps.... But they aren't metal amps so they wouldn't get any love here anyway.....

Crate has some good amps, but not for any kind of extreme metal that's for sure. Still, have been used, but yeah I guess there are much better sounding stuff for the same price
