but everytime I find somebody with a VH140, it ends up having problems (cold solder joints seems to be the common culprit).

Right now I'm using my friend's Crate TidalWave 3500H which was build on the same circuitry, and I love it. Any recommendations? What all amps were made with the same circuitry that you know of FOR SURE? Comparable amps? Got a tour coming up soon and need to decide on something.

Thanks in advance!

I'm most definitely on the lookout for a VH140 if I can find one, just scared of the problems they have which are hit or miss with time.

As far as spending, I'd say really $500 tops for a head ATM. Money is tight, especially with a tour. I'd like SS but I can def go tube. I've just had fewer problems with SS vs tube. I've heard a lot of good things about the Bugera 333XL

I have the gx130c and I can confirm that it sounds pretty close to the ampeg based on what I've heard of it. It's still not quite there, but almost. The RG100 and Marshall 8100 are supposed to be pretty good for tones like that too.
