I know there was a thread on this a while back, but I can't seem to locate it. Anyway, make your own (reasonable) Symphony X setlist! I say reasonable because setlists like the one immediately following are obviously not plausible:

V: The New Mythology Suite in its entirety
The Edge of Forever
Through the Looking Glass
INTERMISSION
Divine Wings of Tragedy (album) in its entirety - 10th anniversary!
The Odyssey (album) in its entirety - 2,707th anniversary! (of the poem)
ENCORE - Shades of Grey

I'm not asking you to add all of the songs' lengths together and aim for a specific time limit, but just try to keep it reasonable.

Here's mine:

*Songs marked with an asterisk are swapped each night, Rush/DT style

The Walls of Babylon
*Set the World on Fire (or) *Evolution (The Grand Design)
The Serpent's Kiss
*Fallen (or) *King of Terrors
Church of the Machine
Domination
Accolade medley
*Out of the Ashes (or) *Dressed to Kill
Paradise Lost
*Seven (or) *The Relic
*Eve of Seduction (or) *Frontiers
Through the Looking Glass
--------------------------------------
Revelation (Divus Pennae ex Tragoedia)
The Divine Wings of Tragedy

I wanted to put The Edge of Forever in there, but after the conversation that Eyeball Kid, Rocky Raccoon, and myself had with Russ and Lepond, it became evident that no one would ever hear that song again. Lepond also said they would never play Frontiers (since no one knows what it is), but I can dream!

Might need a few more fast rockers like Of Sins and Shadows, Sea of Lies etc...

For the first gig, I'll be happy with any setlist and it will propably be mostly new material. But If I could add some older songs, I'd like to have following songs in the dream setlist:
Through The Looking Glass
The Divine Wings Of Tragedy
Church of The Machine
the Edge of Forever (so what if it's impossible)

That's about it really.

OPTION 3

Okay, just bare with me here. Since the first half of V is pretty much the story that either was based off Paradise Lost or that Paradise Lost was based off of (dependng on if you believe in Atlantis or not), I decided to put the two together for one of the most epic Metal Concepts EVER :headbang:

Overture
Divine Wings of Tragedy: At the Four Corners of the Earth
Oculus Ex Inferni
Divine Wings of Tragedy: In The Room of Thrones
Prelude
all rearranged together to form a propper overture

Act 1
Evolution
Divine Wings of Tragedy: A Gathering of Angels
./ Fallen
|. Domination
|. Serpent's Kiss
.\ Divine Wings of Tragedy: The Wrath Divine
New Segue
Communion and the Oracle
./ The Bird Serpent War
|. The Walls of Babylon
|. Set the World On Fire
|. Divine Wings of Tragedy: The Prophet's Cry
|. Divine Wings of Tragedy: Bringer of the Apocalypse
.\ Cataclysm

Act 2
On the Breath of Poseidon
Egypt
The Death Of Balance/Lacrymosa
Absence of Light
Seven
A Fool's Paradise

Act 3
Sacrifice
Revelation
Rediscovery
Divine Wings of Tragedy: Paradise Regained

EDIT: I switched Serpents' Kiss and The Wrath Divine. It would work much better than the other way around, because you really can't go from something like Serpent's Kiss into Communion and the Oracle.

Explain this conversation about TEOF? Did you happen to ask why they play the same old songs time after time? Its almost a travesty how many songs I've heard every time I've seen them live (5x)

Explanation: I can tell you I personally asked each member(except Romeo) why certain songs have been, and will no doubt continue to be omitted, i.e. TEoF, Whispers, In a Winter's Dream, etc... Two members made it very clear that there are other songs they would love to play live, but indicated that it was basically not their call. Additionally, another member had a different perspective, citing that although a few songs like TEoF had been rehearsed in the past, they just didn't "feel" right. He went on to state that touching on the older material would be a step in the wrong direction, as they have so much new material they are trying to get out there to people. That was followed by referencing albums sales, and the fact that the newer stuff sells better and Damnation Game didn't sell shit. Frankly, I don't see the correlation between record sales and what SX plays live, but it was an explanation given. There may be more that Clarence can remember, but that was the gist.

Nah, you got most of it. Jason said they simply omitted Evolution because the entire band was sick of playing it, and also said they scrapped Communion to add Paradise Lost. Mike (Lepond) said he would love to play something like Whispers, and that he'd love to play a longer (three hour?) set in the future. I think Russ and Michael (Romeo) have most of the pull over the setlist, as one has to handle the vocals and the other is the "band leader."

I know you had very in-depth conversations with Lepond and Russ about TEOF, and I think you listed all the reasons why they don't want to play it.

I'll all for playing some rarities and old songs as well, but to be perfectly honest...if I saw them play this setlist? I'd be pretty uninterested.

A few staples is (in my opinion) good, because I don't dislike a song just because it's more popular. With the exceptions of a few songs (Dragon's Den, Candelight, Relic, and TEoF), that setlist would annoy the living hell out of me.
