Creative writing announcements

Two more days and I will have finished a pile of work I have to do and then I will be able to write a little bit more than one-liners which will hopefully lead this forum to new height with a reincrease of great discussions for which I will hopefully find great topics.

My opinion differs on this one: writing with rules helps our proficiency/fluency in English: experienced renowned writers often expressed intense proclivity for this kind of frivolities themselves!

From a creative writing perspective (and I am slightly qualified in this area per my instruction), rules are a great exercise in writing. For example, a common exercise is to take fixed-form poetry like sonnets (any type), vilanelles, limmericks, and the like and write a few. They may not be hard to fit into iambic pentameter or whatever meter or scheme is trying to be achieved, but making a quality fixed-form piece can be exceptionally hard. It trains the mind to stretch and come up with creative ways to fix problems and it also is a good tool to expand vocabulary.

As for my opinion on the content of other user's posts (this is general but somewhat in response to Hyena's previous post): I enjoy posting on this board. I am trying to contribute on a more consistently better level, though some opportunities to be immature are very occasionally irresistible. There are times when I may not reply to a post of exceptional content simply because it isn't directed at me, or I have nothing pertinent to say. But that certainly doesn't mean I don't read them. I personally would like to encourage more in general - I like to read what's written here because often (depends on the topic) it is informative, mature, entertaining and funny (or in some combination thereof). That's not to impose on any other member, I just mean that on a general level in most topics (excluding the occasional immaturity and old inside joke that goes over my head) its quality stuff that I consider worth my time to read.

Whatever that means. :p

point n. 2, which was not in the plan, is that all of us now seem fine with a low level of talk, which just goes to show the truth about one of these:

(a) the posts i used to make did not add much
(b) very few care about posts that add much

I'm all with rahvin on this. Lowering standards is never a positive thing, it only encourages the stupid to stay stupid and the intelligent to become stupid. It's a lose-lose situation.

For all it's worth: I was one of the very few that actually appreciated the posts you used to make.

the idea of doing some work on it is a lot of fun. :)

I saw you!

as for me, i think i have done a lot of that in the past 5 years, but as of late i do not feel like doing it. when i try to say stuff that has more than one layer and makes sense in any way, folks don't read it, or think i play some weird mind game, or - even worse! - just do it for style. i know this does not apply to all, and i say sorry to those who did read my posts, maybe liked them, and meant to trade views. still, i see that most stabs at stuff that adds depth are taken the wrong way.
I do read all your posts and like them, no matter if i agree with them or grunt at having to open the dictionary. Your writing style was not the easiest one for me to read as it was usually complicated, but your posts were worth reading, if only for the fact that they presented different views on the matters.

One liners are underrated.

@rahve: i am not that rich. :)

@siren: thank you. still, i know you lie - you only like me as a means to get to HER. :p

i do have quite a lot of fun with this. but what i do and say (not only me - what one does and says, as a rule) also does imply a stand, which by the way was my point from the start about the world seen in its whole. there is no "just fun" - ever. one means stuff at all times, even if they do not know it. :) as said in a post a while ago, being dumb with a point is also a form of art.

point n. 2, which was not in the plan, is that all of us now seem fine with a low level of talk, which just goes to show the truth about one of these:

(a) the posts i used to make did not add much
(b) very few care about posts that add much

i think it is 30 per cent (a) and 70 per cent (b) - plus, it is not just the board, it is the world at large. so i will stick to being silly and give news feeds about carla. :p

edit: also, most seem to like this thing where you write in a weird way, and this shows that silly ideas do catch on! i rule, as per the queen on the left.

Yeah, let us change the world with our concepts of fun!!! HEY EVERYBODY, LOOK AT ME, I FUCKING SAID LOOK AT ME OKAY, IM ABOUT TO EXPLAIN THE PUNCHLINE OF A GREAT JOKE!!!

You remind me of that idiot Tom Morello, with all his affections towards Fidel and the undying communist revolution, yet with a pretty packet bulging in his pocket (not to be confused with that what you desperately need).

i am not a commy by any means. yet, i come from punk rock. this is not news - it's been like that for ages. i loved this since i was 15. while being a commy is at odds with money, liking a bit of chaos is not. if you want the high-brow talk, read him, he said it all.

Well, as it's been said, it's not easy to express these views, but I'm also gonna give it a shot.

As for the (apparent) nature of this thread
, writting in a different way. I'm with Display of Character on this, it is important to have some consistency when expressing oneself, yet once you've reached some acceptable level, there are some occasions where deliberately being an idiot (and I'm rather keen at this) can be fun.

As for the long posting. I left the board long ago, circa 2003, but I keep coming back, no matter how different my life and views are from the ones that I had back then. I must admit that it is Rahvin's posts the main reason for me to come back. And they were long sometimes, but I remember myself, with a lower proficency in english (yeah, even lower), closely reading his lines and feeling excited by the challenge of replying. Same applied to other old regulars, Villain, Misanthrope, and many others who made this board so great to be wandered.

Nowadays I still like reading Rahvin's posts, and I see that people like DisplayOFCharacter or Marduk (and you, dear reader of my lines, XD) add some new blood and the same interesting challenge that existed some years ago, even when their posts are long.

There are many reasons for people to not reply to a certain post in a board, DisplayofCharacter gave a couple that don't fit into any of the two categories hyena proposed. It is not that he doesn't care about posts that add much, but that he knows little about the particular field discussed, or he would love to reply but his exams keep him quite busy. To validate this point, let me keep feeding Rahvin's ego, his posts were often replied even if they were a long and intrincated train of thought. THis robot himself liked to do it. It was harder and it required time, but it was interesting nonetheless.

This leads us to the third and last point, hope I can put it well and not start a fight again, I swear it is not my intention, honest to God.

As for Hyena's game. Hyena, I don't like you, I never did. You surely don't like me either. I also believe that we both are entitled to it. And shall peace bless us.

I'm not the first one in this board to feel like this, this is certainty, and it is not me the first one straightforwardly stating how unbearable your speech seems to me. For this reason, I strongly hold myself to your "a" option, your posts, in my opinion, make no sense at all most of the time. Other people might like them, well, let them be then.

This is not an honest thread to have fun and show how outrageously intelligent we are, this is a childish game of yours because you felt bad when I pointed out how regularly the word "concur" showed up in your writting, and had a little fight. That was the origin of this "simple way of posting", otherwise, I fail to see the link you followed by jumping from the honest game to the sudden "the whole world don't care to read my insightful posts" conclusion. Now we can bring semantics here, if you want.

Some people mock you because you pick out unusual words, and you go on a strike and start an universal tragedy? How old are you? Eight?

In an understandable way: Rahvin can keep using the word "obnoxious" as long as his words make sense. Besides, he's earned it after 17.000 posts bringing back words never used since the 17th century (blink!). Truth is, you can have a high level proficency on certain language, yet well ornamented crap keeps smelling.

I throw this out because I felt this way and I liked to clarify my position. From now on, I'll try to politely ignore you. I could leave some room for you to reply to this, but I think the main point here is that I don't like you, and admittedly you can have some peeps out there, so we better go on with our lives.

I like this board, I hope I can remain here.

P.S: Good thing is, this has been long as the Bible, so nobody will read it. No worries, I will assume that this falls into hyena's "b" category, where my post was so enlightening that nobody cared. :)

@Rampage: Do you know any interesting forum in french? I did some research to try to improve my writting skills in french, but I didn't like what I found. Any suggestions?
