Let's run through the list:

1. Do a jig folky elements...check.
2. Bombastic and epic orchestral score on par with Nightwish....check.
3. Awesome production...check.
4. Female vocalist that doesnt sound like a whiny schoolgirl.....check.
5. Demon from hell black metal vocals...double check.

Excellent.

I love this CD, it is as Glenn says Excellent. I have had it in my play rotation since i got it a month ago.

I was very disappointed with this....it was like a Nightwish wanna-be trying to add a little folk in it. Just didnt work for me. none of the songs really stood out. Seems like another band jumping on the band wagon for this style.

I found Crimfall's debut CD ]"As The Path Unfolds..." one of the most impressive debuts for years. I'm glad you guys are starting to find this band. I'll quote myself from the Female Fronted Bands- thread three weeks ago:

Crimfall

"All the female fronted metalbands do sound alike." - Well, not quite so. Listen to Crimfall.

Amazingly this band has created quite a hype already, even they only started a year and a half ago. They released one demo and got instantly signed on Napalm Records. A week ago Crimfall released their debut CD "As The Path Unfolds..." in Europe and in the USA.

Crimfall are a band just riding the wave of folk metal. Seemed like they were originally just your average death metal / operatic female voice power metal band that is just riding the wave of the folk trend. They are not a horrible band by any means...just very generic. I highly recommend hunting down NEVID....they are a great Russian band in this vein who do it right. I think Napalm is just putting out anything folk now to cash in. I was also highly let down with the last Aesmigin disc they put out too. Years waiting for a new disc and it was not worth a second listen. Which is too bad after a great debut disc. There are so many better folk bands out there....who have this kind of style...Butterfly Temple...Alkonost at times and lots of great ones from Russia.

Folk metal is big in Russia, in part, because of the nationalist groups. Not to take anything away from the groups though.
