I've been getting into sludge recently, and I was listening to Crowbar's Sonic Excess... album and noticed just how fucking cool the guitar tone was :D

Does anyone have any info on what they used to get the guitar tone on this album?

These are my favourite songs off the album :D

All I know is they used Randall solidstates and boss metalzones on "odd fellows rest"

Dimebag also said in interviews "my bud kirk from crowbar uses the same rig but wires it differently and sounds awesome"

OFR is my fave crowbar record, later screwed by mastering on the reissue :(

Well I've got a Boss metal zone

I've been enjoying Sonic Excess... but I'll get all the albums soon, I can't get enough of the sludgey riffs :D

A friend described Crowbar as "being swimming in a pool filled with mashed potatoes"
And I think it fits

About the metal zone...maybe they used it as a boost? they have this oversaturated tone most of the times until recently ( they switched to marshall I think?)

Haha the sound is so thick :D

I cannot adequately express to you fine gentlemen the love that I share for this band.

Yes - Boost only. He talks about his setup in this vid @ about 1:50ish.

LOVE Crowbar!! Kirk is definitely a big Randall user...every time I've seen them he's pretty much had the same setup. I thought that I remember reading that Oddfellow's Rest was Recto. Definitely sounds a bit Rectoish.

I saw Eyehategod last weekend here in Austin. They played Taked As Needed for Pain and In the Name of Suffering both in there entirety. It was beyond sick!

One of my favorite tracks by Crowbar...LOVE the bass tone:
