Cruelest people in history?

Thanks. Wanna point out how?

because its not as black and white as you tried to paint it... there was warfare between tribes long before we got there... tribal leaders actually sold africans into slavery to whites... AIDS actually comes from africa, so they gave it to US... etc.

Right...I know they sold us slaves, but that was because we bought them. Traditional african slavery was nowhere near as harsh as the European brand. We gave them guns and encouraged tribal warfare.
As far as AIDS, we haven't done shit about it - we've let them die by the millions without medication, education, etc...

Not funny. Not because it was offensive, but because it was stupid. If you're gonna make a racist joke, it should be funny.

Because they didn't have technology, because they didn't need it, because technological prowess does not mean success, because their way of life was fucking fine before we got there and fucked their shit up with slavery and war?

Holy shit you made a meaningful post. Bravo.

So yeah, what he said. Too many people view technological advancement and the artificialization of civilization as "progress", when in fact it's only gotten as far as it has because Europe was limited in terms of resources and then came the whole Platonic-Aristotelian ideal of man being superior to and independent of nature.

Exactly. Sure, our lives have all sorts of technological advantages, and I'm not going to say I would trade places with a pre-European African, but if the level of technology a society has works for them we don't have a right to shove our technology onto them, otherwise problems like these happen. Technological advancement happens because societies want or need the advances. There's a reason Africans were at the point they were at. What they had worked.

If the Africans hadn't had European technologies and viewpoints thrust on them, we'd have a much different Africa. I wouldn't be surprised if Africa had become much like Australia (as far as I understand it. I'm talking about the continued existence of aboriginals.), a few major, technologically advanced cities, some smaller modern towns, and small villages that retained the original culture, with access to medicine and other things. Africa could have become so much better than it is now. Unfortunately, it will take a lot of war and bloodshed before Africa becomes anything resembling what it could have been, left to it's own devices.

All because of European greed and corruption.

I have posted this before, but has anyone read or saw the documentary Guns, Germs and Steel? It explains why some places were technologically advanced opposed to other places like Africa. Africa is full of Hunters and Gatherers, while places like the Middle East and Europe farmed. The farmers had more time because they didn't worry about food, and then had free time to create things, like religion, or the wheel. Now this is only a theory, but I agree with it.

I am no expert, but I don't think "Europe" is unique in technological advancements. Many European advances in Technology, Sciences, Medicine were influenced by or started in Asia, The Middle East, Africa (ie. Eqypt). Also wasn't the entire Roman civilization's foundations based on slavery, also slavery has been a major part of Europe's history way before African's were brought to the New World.

True, but the Europeans carried these ideas to new levels, which is why they get most of the credit for the more modern advances in science and technology.

I mean, Africa was an absolute utopia, the best civilization that could possibly exist before Europeans.

Come on... why did they sell slaves? Because they were so damn poor and desperate for for some kind of wealth that they had to resort to that. I don't see where guns cause their tribal wars... If there were never guns, they'd kill each other with spears.

Europeans may have slightly accelerated the process, but Africa was well on it's way to this before.

WTF are you talking about? Australia was a European territory!! Not only that, it was used as a prison for the English! Do think that Africa doesn't have the existence of its original people?

How the fuck can you argue that European technological influence caused all of this, and then say that Africa's lack of technological advancement is because of the Europeans?

To be fair, Europe hasn't been anymore of a Utopia than Africa, unless you want to forget two World Wars starting in Europe, The Medieval period, Barbarian raids, constant territorial wars, Religious wars and crusades, mass slavery and genocides, the Plagues, widespread disease and famines, ruthless dictatorships etc...

Btw, I am not on either side, just trying to spark debate.
