Cryptopsy

btw....after telling a friend about this thread, he told me to post this:
(10:55:04 PM): Well, if you don't like obscenely hard death metal then you really have no business being there in the first place. You should know what you're dealing with before you buy the ticket, asshole.

that was directed towards Mad Poet.

I have to say, the acoustics were terrible at the show, but that is the kind of sound that Cryptopsy goes for....

Hey there, you should tell your friend that I would appreciate not being called names. Besides, in any case, I did have business there: I came to see Dimmu Borgir, and so I did have to buy a ticket. And yes, I don't like obscenely bad acoustics that turn all songs into noise and render them indistinguishable from each other. Their attitude also kind of insulted me.

They rule, technically acomplished brutal intensity. Its how i would describe them. The last one was a tad weaker than Whisper Supremacy, but it was more elaborated so if they stop doing so much None so vile era riffs that sound a bit forced they could well become legendary imho.

i just download a couple of sample from centuary media & i think i like none so vile more than the rest of their album... thank for those who have recommen them to me.

@MadPoet:

sorry...I think we got off on the wrong foot...my friend thinks so too...

the reply from my friend:

"Ok, I forgot I called him that, and in retrospect I wish you had omitted that part. I would like you to post this if you don't mind. Tell him I apologize for calling him names. I was in a bad mood at the time, and understand how he feels. Tell him I thought the acoustics weren't all that awful. Their songs are often hard to distinguish even on records, although the arena wasn't particularly well suited for such bands when compared to the higher sound quality offered by more open areas. Also ask him what about their attitude offended him, since I didn't find anything wrong with them. "

I guess its pretty much self-explanatory....and yeah...he was pretty pissed off that night....(not at you that is)

No problem. I understand.

The atittude question: it's hard to explain, really. Some kind of arrogance, maybe... The vocalist took to much pride in singing as harshly as he could... A sort of aggressive attitude with respect to the audience (something that Dimmu Borgir did not have: they create their own world, and it's pretty dark and extreme, but they do not "sing down" to the audience, which I somehow felt with Cryptopsy). In some other cases, I would have just not cared, but I felt they had enough nominal talent to actually complay something worthwhile (in my opinion), but didn't because they didn't care to.

I'm generally not a fan of that kind of music, but I hoped I would like them anyway because they knew what they were doing and would do it really well. For that to happen, though, it would really have to sound clear and not turn into an ocean of indistinguishable sound, which is often what I interpreted it to be. It's not like I have any personal hatred for them, I was just really upset at how disappointing (even, really, utterly bad - to my ears) I found their performance to be, and really don't have any more interest in hearing any of their music in the future.

@emperor: since you seem to be the only Swiss person on this board, would you care to explain to me why in your country there are bands who preach switzerland's supremacy over the world? i know everyone is entitled to their national pride but whatever did they do with their sense of humor?

which bands do you mean? I don't know any bands here that preaches Switzerland's supremacy over the world... maybe you can explain me what you mean. You should know that many people here in Switzerland aren't very proud to be Swiss (don't know why), so I can hardly believe that there are bands who think so.

rahvin, please help, i cannot place the band or the verses, could you be precise on that?

hyena

@theemperor: the band she's referring to are samael, who wrote some... *ahem* passionate words about switzerland in their song "the cross" out of their latest - but now years-old - album, "eternal".
i love both the album and the song, but frankly helvetia gloria still smile is a tad overboard. ;)

rahvin.

ok but then it's only ONE band that maybe has a sentence like that. I have only two earlier albums and don't have "Eternal", so I can't say how this sentence is meant to be. Anyway, I don't care if they sing good or bad things about our country. And we surely can't say that there are bands here who preach Switzerland's supremacy over the world at all! that's ridiculous, Switerland is such a small country and has nothing to say in the big world....

@theemperor: yes, they're just one band and the only one i've heard so far. i don't know what other bands hyena was referring to.
that sentence (check out the whole song, it's good) is meant very much in a nationalistic, supremacy all-over way, and the entire song centers on switzerland being quite... well... ahead of others. however, i don't care whether they preach switzerland's or bubububu's supremacy either, that was just to let you know. ;)

rahvin.

yeah thanks for the information, I didn't know about that before, although I heard the song once I guess. :) In general, Swiss people aren't nationalistic at all... however as said before, I don't care what they preach ;)

by the way, do you know any other Swiss bands? I'm just interested ;)
