Huh? You can draw automation with a pencil tool or, like I do most of the time, enable automation READ + WRITE and just move the fader around or panning, or bypass an effect, whatever needs to be done, I like to do it while it plays through. It records the automation data and then I turn WRITE off and I'm done. Sometimes I'll need to go back and fine-tune what I've done by using the pencil tool or just the mouse tool to drag points around. But usually I get it the first pass.
It's actually extremely easy, IMO, to do automation...no harder than any other host.
