but i can't switch to reaper full-time now because i have a million projects in cubase that will never be finished and that aren't compatible with any other software

itt, post about decisions you made long ago that will haunt you forever

:fu:

Man just bite the bullet, bounce everything out and move it to reaper. With the possible exception of EDM production in FL studio Reaper kicks every other DAWs ass. Flexible routing, the best timestreching/pitch shifting capabilities I've seen, endless options for parallel fx chains in one track, fully customisable interface if you're into that... Can't be beaten. But hey, at least you're not using Logic.

Everyone is telling me to use logic... Wtf is so great about it?

I'm not very skilled with any variety of software, but I used to use ACID 4.0 (like 10 years ago) and I remember that it was so easy to use. It was fairly simple for me to put together decent songs. Using Cubase recently was definitely a pain in the ass, I did not find it very intuitive. I need to take a class or something...

I hate recording. Well, I hate recording myself. If someone else is recording me, I have an absolute blast. So, I've only done serious recording a few times. 95% of my playing experience is live, which means I have very little lasting legacy cut on wax! That part sucks.

Literally nothing. Its inflexible in every way, unintuitive, restrictive and so god damn slow. Theres a lot of hype around it from people (usually apple fanatics) that have never bothered to learn to use anything other than logic and think its the greatest thing of all time. It's truly awful.

logic is the worst

everything else works roughly the same, in a pinch i'll use sonar or protools or digital performer or reaper or anything because they've pretty much got the same basic concepts and i can figure them out easily enough

but logic is just so illogical. nothing works the way you expect it, it's huge and feels bloated and stupid

i actually bought a legit-ass license for reaper and i love it, the only thing cubase does truly better is midi note editing, but reaper is pretty close and as you say, you can customize it to be close to cubase's behaviour anyway

maybe for the next major project i do i will have the ballz to move to reaper for real

What's the best software then?

reaper

cubase has a decently logical workflow but the software itself is slow, inefficient and creaky as fuck

parts of the codebase date back to 1989 and the atari st for cryin out loud (this is maybe not true anymore)

^This. The ONLY exception is if you're doing almost exclusively synth based stuff. FL studio gives you better automation clips, better midi editing (its got slide notes, though that only works with their own synths) and patcher, which doesnt let you do anything new per say but it sure as hell is a lot more user friendly that say Reapers pin system. That said FL Studio is such a complete oddball that you'll either love it or hate it.

By the way has anyone seen Logic X "drum track?" Its the dumbest shit I've ever seen. Though at least its not Logic 9 and crashes due to its own built in plugins
