Ungarn ist bestimmt ein schönes Reiseziel und die ungarischen Tänze von Brahms sind weltweit populär, aber in metallischer Hinsicht ist es sicherlich noch ein recht unbekannter Fleck auf der Landkarte. Jaja, abgesehen von Ektomorf vielleicht. Mit dem Debüt-Album von DAMNED SPIRITS' DANCE darf sich dieser Zustand jedoch gerne schnell ändern. Nach der Gründung im Jahre 2002 hat man mit der eigens aufgenommenen 2005er-EP "The Growing Spirit" ein erstes Zeichen gesetzt und die Aufmerksamkeit der Labels auf sich gezogen. Den Zuschlag bekamen Code666 und damit sollte auch bereits jedem Leser klar sein, dass man hier musikalisch nichts Traditionelles und Normales erwarten darf.
Sollte man also vor dem ersten Reinhören in "Weird Constellations" noch keinen Blick auf das Cover erspäht haben könnte man sich folgendes Szenario vorstellen: Eine Bande von Clowns ist aus dem Zirkus geflohen, traf auf der Flucht auf einen farbenblinden Black-Metaller, der sich der Gruppe anschloss, weil er dachte es handele sich um Artgenossen, sowie auf einen erfolgreichen Produzenten aus der Techno-Szene, der glaubte, mit dieser Ansammlung komischer Gestalten Profit machen zu können und sie prompt in sein Studio mitnahm. Nach einigen Telefongesprächen konnte er auch noch H.P. Baxxter und Kim Sanders zu Gastauftritten überreden und schon stand mindestens einem Nr.1-Charthit nichts mehr im Wege.
Ok, man kann sich natürlich denken, dass es nicht so abgelaufen ist und man auch nicht den Scooter-Lautsprecher oder die zwischenzeitliche Frontsängerin von Culture Beat für sich gewinnen konnte, aber zumindest so was Ähnliches. Aber der Reihe nach: Beginnt "Visioner" noch recht konventionell mit ein paar rockigen Klängen, geht es schon bald gesanglich in extremere Gefilde und auch die Musik wird härter und vor allem abgedrehter. Die Überdosis an Keyboardeinsatz gibt es hier zwar noch nicht, aber doch begleiten spacige Klänge bereits das wilde Treiben. Einen Ausbruch ins Blastbeat-Tempo bekommt man zum Schluss auch noch geboten, kurzum gesagt ist es eine Nummer, die einen ersten Ausblick auf die noch über 50 ausstehenden Minuten gibt, ohne dabei bereits das Beste vorwegzunehmen.
Das ändert sich dann schlagartig mit "Cold Winds - A Dream Vision": Teils Orientalisches, teils thrashiges Riffing bestimmt den Song vorerst und Sinox oder Corun growlt sich einen ab. Es wird schnell offensichtlich mit welch simplen, aber überzeugendem Prinzip DAMNED SPIRITS' DANCE in ihren Songs meistens vorgehen: den Rahmen bilden unkomplizierte Parts, sei es nun eher aus dem rockigen Bereich oder auch gerne mal rasante Black-Metal-Prügelei. Doch irgendwann kommt dann der überraschende Moment, wo man etwas aus dem musikalischen Hut zaubert, was man entweder keinesfalls bei einem solchen Stück erwartet hätte oder das eben etwas komplizierter und tiefgehender gestaltet ist. Im Falle des zweiten Songs ist das eine progressivere, ausufernde Gitarrenpassage, die durch Keyboard und gute Dynamik des Schlagzeugs unterstützt wird. Zum Schluss rundet ein schneller Tritt aufs Gaspedal die wandlungsvollen 7 Minuten Spielzeit des Songs ab.
So weit, so gut, aber jetzt kommt "Devil's On His Way" und der schießt eindeutig den Vogel ab. Wenn man diesen Teufel an die Wand malen müsste, dann käme dabei auf jeden Fall eine Comic-Figur raus, die in der Hölle lieber feiern möchte als einen auf böse zu machen. Diesen Eindruck gewinnt man nicht zuletzt, wenn auf einmal der Rummel oder Zirkus los ist, nicht im ernsteren Kontext wie bei Carach Angren's Erstling "Lammendam", wenn auch teils mit ähnlichen Vocals, sondern eher so herrlich überdreht wie in Unexpect's "The Shiver - Meet Me At The Carousel" mit flotten Stromkastentastenspielereien. Nicht zuletzt deswegen passt der anfangs angesprochene Clown-Vergleich ganz gut, und da hat man den Beweis, dass Clowns lustig sind, denn "Devil's On His Way" macht einen Heidenspaß.
Mit dem Titeltrack, einem kurzem Instrumental, welches rein elektronischer Natur ist, leitet man dann so was wie den zweiten Abschnitt von "Weird Constellations" ein, in dem die Elektro-/Techno-Anteile etwas mehr Beachtung bekommen, ohne dabei in den richtigen Songs jemals die metallische Seite für längere Zeit in den Hintergrund zu drängen. In "The Angel And The Dark River" gibt es dann auch den einzigen echten Gastauftritt am Mikrophon, Judit Pusztai heißt die Dame. Und hört man ihren Gesang zum Auftakt, so verfällt man fast dem Glauben, dass der Song ein waschechter Disco-Kracher sein könnte. Dieser Eindruck wird dann jäh beendet durch infernalische Knüppelei, die jedoch eher noch den Ohrwurm-Charakter hochschraubt, denn das Keyboard stellt seinen Dienst während dieser Zeit nicht ein und das Ganze bekommt schon fast einen paganmäßigen Touch à la Equilibrium. Der Höllenritt wird dann nur noch einmal durch einen coolen Bass-Einsatz unterbrochen, nach welchem es einen zweiten Solo-Einsatz von Judit gibt, die sonst auch zwischendurch mal ein bisschen vor sich hinträllert, während man hüpfend durch den Wald laufen möchte. Der Titel ist übrigens nicht nur zufällig auch der eines My-Dying-Bride-Albums, denn der Bandname der Briten taucht im Booklet - das so gestaltet ist, dass man so etwas wie eine Geschichte vor sich hat - vor dem eigentlichen Text des Songs auf.
Qualitativ bewegen sich alle Stücke bis auf "So Much To Say... So I Rather Tell None" auf einem Level, erwähnenswert ist noch die mögliche Techno-Hymne "Fake" mit Megaphon-Einsatz und der Verbreitung der Message "Love is in the air!", wenn, ja wenn man den Song um die Hälfte der Länge gekürzt und damit auch den progressiven und thrashigen Metal-Anteil entfernt hätte - was man aber glücklicherweise nicht getan hat. Bleibt eigentlich nur noch die Frage was zur Inspiration für den Text von "Black Savage" diente, in welchem man das Thema Rassismus gegenüber dem "schwarzen Wilden" anschneidet, aber da müsste man wohl mal persönlich bei der Band nachhaken.
Zunächst dachte ich ja, dass "Weird Constellations" mir nur die Wartezeit bis zu neuem Material von Unexpect verkürzt, aber es stellte sich schnell heraus, dass es durchaus für mehr taugt und grade im kommenden Sommer noch viel Freude bereiten dürfte. Und vielleicht wird man ja bald auch hierzulande mal mit den verdammten Geistern tanzen.

I can tell you that song X has a killer riff or a beautiful vocal line which gives you a vague idea what you can expect, although to describe a song with any great degree of accuracy would be pointless as great music speaks to the heart in ways that words cannot. Never has the original point been so valid as with Damned Spirits Dance. Not only is this because my vocabulary has one too many gaps to fully describe such a, well, schizophrenic album, but frankly this is just one that has to be heard to be believed. The amount of What the $%£&s and Turn this shit offs Ive had thrown at me over the past week or two tell me this isnt necessarily the most accessible of albums and isnt one if youre after a quick Mc-headbanging fix but often those are the best ones and the ones that stay around the longest in my opinion. This will take you on an interstellar voyage through unknown territory, blowing your mind and blasting you into another dimension. I simply love Devils On His Way with its madcap theatrical style; after a confounding intro the drums and guitars come bouncing in creating a real chaotic upheaval. Theres a maddened chuckle to the vocal delivery that fits the unhinged clatter like hand to glove; surely the devil would approve![/SIZE][/FONT][/SIZE][/FONT]

There is a strong black metal backbone that remains fairly constant throughout this album, as while there are plenty of diversions it always manages to swing back to the icy blasting and ferocious guitars, such as on Fake which has a black thrash kind of ferocity that brings to mind Melechesh. This has a really dazzling sci-fi vibe to it which is coated in fuzz and introduces us to the cosmic dance sounds that are recurrent in what follows. Absolutely no two tracks here are the same and while this has a definite unhinged quality to it, this doesnt seem disjointed; the tracks segue neatly into one another, and this perfectly leads the way for the stunning Angel And The Dark River. The female vocals on this track sound simply magnificent and really send the spirit soaring through the stars, while the black metal rasps provide a strong contrast for these reflective moments. This seems to be an integral part of the story as we get to Fake when the stupid song Ive been hearing all night is brought in and out on numerous occasions. Some will argue that dance doesnt belong with metal; that the two styles are mortal enemies but this says different! So Much To Say So Id Rather Tell No-One really shakes things up with this bringing a classic doom flavour to the table with some riffs straight from the book of Sabbath and powerful, majestic vocals that have me thinking of Messiah Marcolin. Guess Im Dying brings the album to a rather subdued close; accepting death and sadly the end of the CD. Theres definitely a story here judging by the way the lyrics are laid out, although they are rather vague in their meaning and too nonsensical to really analyse here given my limited time to write this review. So Much To Say So Id Rather Tell No-One really shakes things up with this bringing a classic doom flavour to the table with some riffs straight from the book of Sabbath and powerful, majestic vocals that have me thinking of Messiah Marcolin. Guess Im Dying brings the album to a rather subdued close; accepting death and sadly the end of the CD. Theres definitely a story here judging by the way the lyrics are laid out, although they are rather vague in their meaning and too nonsensical to really analyse here given my limited time to write this review. Végre valahára megjelent a Damned Spirits' Dance első albuma! Személy szerint nagyon vártam, mert már a 2005-ben megjelent "The Growing Spirit" háromszámos EP is nagyon tetszett. Ez viszont egy komplex, sokkal jobb hangzású album, mely a code666 kiadó jóvoltából jelent meg április 20-án.
Nem is tudnám elmagyarázni a stílust azoknak, akik még nem hallották a DSD zenéjét. Egyedi, az biztos. Az egyik zenekaros oldalon meghatározásként "Melodic/Atmospheric Black Metal, Power Metal"-t írnak, bár ezt még kiegészíteném azzal, hogy vannak benne elektro/industrial elemek is. Ehhez hasonló zenekart mindenesetre még nem láttam Magyarországon.
Az albumon 11 dal található, melyek átlagban 4-5 percesek, kivétel az album címével is megegyező 6. nóta, mely egy nagyon rövid (nem egész két perces) ének nélküli, elektro-témákkal rendelkező szerzemény. Ezzel a dallal mintha két részre osztották volna az albumot.
Az első dal ("Visioner") gitártémájáról a Rózsaszín Párduc jellegzetes zenéje jut eszembe, bár nyilván a fiúk nem onnan vették az ötletet Kellemes gitártémák, ötletes elektronikus részek, egyszóval komplex, nagyszerű dalok, nagyjából ez jellemző az egész albumra. Még a lassabb részek sem olyanok, hogy elalszik rajta az ember. Az ének egy külön pozitívum, az énekesnek remek hangja van. A dalokban egyébként a dallamos és a "kiabálós" részek váltakoznak, ezek amúgy remek összhangban vannak.
A "Devil's On His Way" szerintem simán beillene filmzenének, és az ötödik, "Black Savage" című dalnak is elég fülbemászó dallama van.
Amit még feltétlenül megemlítenék, az a "Fake". Ez egy elég érdekes szám, ugyanis egy remek death metal jellegű résszel kezdődik, majd csend...és hirtelen belekevernek egy olyan témát, melyet kb. akkor hallasz, ha bemész egy diszkóba. Ebben a dalban tehát minden van: death metal, diszkózene, industrial, power metal, de valahogy így teljes.
Összességébe véve ez az album a kicsit érdekes részekkel is komplex, nekem legalábbis nagyon tetszik. Azoknak ajánlom, akik nincsenek konkrétan egy stlílushoz leragadva.

Damned Spirits' Dance's new album is out now! I waited for it, because I also like "The Growing Spirit" EP, which they published in 2005. This is a complex album with better sounding, which they released via code666 records in 20.04.
I can't explain the exact style for those, who didn't saw the band live. It's unique. I read "Melodic/Atmospheric Black Metal, Power Metal" in a site, but I'd like to complete it, because there are some electro/industrial themes, too, in the songs. I didn't know similar bands in Hungary yet.
There are 11 songs in this album, and their average lengths are about 4-5 minutes, except the 6th song -which has the same title as the album's- because this is a very short song with electro themes, and without vocals. This song cuts in two this album.
When I firstly heard the first song ("Visioner"), Pink Panther's specific music came in my mind, but I'm sure, that this song Isn't inspired by Pink Panther Good guitar themes, creative electric parts, complex, great songs - this is typical of this album. Even the slowly parts of the songs aren't so slow, that people can sleep on these. Vocals are positives too, the singer has a great voice. There are melodic and "screamy" parts of the songs, and they are in accord with each other.
"Devil's On His Way" is a song, which I can imagine in a movie, and the 5th song, called "Black Savage" has also a catchy melody.
I would like to mention a special song, called "Fake". This is an interesting song, starts with a death metal theme, and then silence.. and continous with a theme, which you can hear when you go to a disco. So there are various themes in the song, eg. death metal, disco music, industrial, and power metal but this song is perfect with these things.
So this album is complex, even with the strange parts, I like it. I offer this album those, who like various music types.

Eine Preisfrage gleich zu Beginn: Worauf könnte die Verwendung des Begriffes "Constellation" im Albumtitel hinweisen? Na? NA? Kleiner Tipp: Ein Blick auf das Albumcover dürfte genügen, um die große Frage beantworten und einhundert Gummipunkte (und eine Gummiwaschmaschine) einstreichen zu können. Damit ist zum Album des ungarischen Fünfers DAMNED SPIRITS DANCE eigentlich schon das Meiste gesagt was prinzipiell natürlich erschreckend ist oder sein sollte; tatsächlich muss ich jedoch zugeben, dass ARCTURUS (für alle, die bis jetzt nicht drauf gekommen sind...) nicht das schlechteste Vorbild für eine aufstrebende avantgardistisch veranlagte Band sind.
Bleibt noch das "Weird" zu erklären das sehe ich persönlich im Dunstkreis der Kanadier UNEXPECT, die eine ähnliche Vorliebe für schräge Arrangements und abgefahrene Vokalarbeit besitzen. Im Grunde machen DAMNED SPIRITS DANCE ihre Sache auch gar nicht schlecht! Der Hang zur Verwendung allerlei Elektronika ist deutlich stärker ausgeprägt als bei ARCTURUS, und folgerichtig treten die Gitarren weiter in den Hintergrund. NOCH weiter, möchte ich fast sagen, denn schon auf den letzten ARCTURUS-Veröffentlichungen konnte ich mich des Eindrucks nicht erwehren, dass die eigentlichen Metal-Bestandteile eher zu "Sideshow Symphonies" wurden. Wären auf "Weird Constellations" nicht zum Teil sehr gute Schlagzeugarbeit (die bei mir fast den Verdacht auf Stromtrommler erweckt) und in ihren Grundfesten eben auch schwarzmetallische Gitarren zu hören, könnte man fast von einem schrägen Pop/Elektronik-Album sprechen. Aber eben nur fast, denn die Gratwanderung zwischen avantgardistischem Anspruch und belanglosem Geklimper gelingt DAMNED SPIRITS DANCE über weite Strecken überraschend gut.
Dass "Weird Constellations" deutlich hinter den genannten musikalischen Paten zurückbleibt, liegt jedoch nicht allein daran, dass sowohl ARCTURUS als auch UNEXPECT in eigenen Ligen spiel(t)en. DAMNED SPIRITS DANCE gelingt es auf ihrer ersten "Major"-Veröffentlichung nicht konsequent genug, wirklich packende Musik zu schreiben trotz aller technischen Finesse, trotz des Ideenreichtums in den elf Songs. Mir fehlt einfach Feeling, das ARCTURUS zum Beispiel in all ihren Songs versprüh(t)en! Auf der anderen Seite sind DAMNED SPIRITS DANCE nicht "verrückt" genug, um UNEXPECT in irgendeiner Weise das Wasser reichen zu können.
Es ist sicher positiv zu bewerten, dass DAMNED SPIRITS DANCE weder ARCTURUS noch UNEXPECT wirklich kopieren und damit eine gewisse Eigenständigkeit beweisen doch ohne das nötige Gefühl schafft es auch diese Band nicht, mich dauerhaft vom Hocker zu hauen. Das wiederum ist ein Problem, das meinem persönlichen Geschmack nach bei Code666/Aural Music-Veröffentlichungen häufiger auftritt. Die transparente, dadurch aber auch total sterile Produktion schlägt da in die gleiche Kerbe und so geht das wohl als "Ballade" angelegte Schlussstück "Guess Im Dying" eben auch ziemlich daneben. Insgesamt ist "Weird Constellations" dennoch ein sehr interessantes und abwechslungsreiches Album, auf dem DAMNED SPIRITS DANCE sehr viel Potential zeigen, das es auf den kommenden Alben auszuschöpfen gilt.

Ykkösraita Visioner ei ehdi kauhean pitkälle, kun kansikuvan ja muun kuvaston tuottamat mielikuvat melodisen astraalista metallista tulvahtelevat korville hyvinkin Arcturusmaisina nuotinnoksina. Tämä unkarilainen bändi tuntuisi tosin karsineen musiikistaan suurimman osan avantgardesta pois, ja tämän vuoksi kuviot Weird Constellationsilla ovat vain harvoin varsinaisesti outoja.
Damned Spirits' Dance sotkee ensilevyllään vaikutteita niin Arcturusista kuin suoraviivaisemmastakin melometallista, mutta taitaa tosiaan myös mutkittelun jalon taidon. Esimerkiksi Devil's on His Way -biisissä eri osia on vaikka millä mitalla, mutta samalla paljastuvat myös bändin kantamat lapsentaudit. Vaikka mutkittelua, niiailua ja venkoilua on vähintään riittävästi, tuntuu kappale silti erittäin tasapaksulta. Kuten TSS - Toxic Shock Syndrome kelvollisesti osoittaa, tarvitsevat mutkikkaammat osat tasapainokseen myös suoraviivaisempaa rypistystä. Itse asiassa TSS onkin levyn selkeästi iskevimpiä biisejä ja tuo paikoin mieleen jopa Strapping Young Ladin.
Epäkypsyys puskee Weird Constellationsilta läpi myös yliyrittämisen muodossa. Esimerkiksi nimikappaleessa käytetyt techno/dance-vaikutteet saavat välipalabiisin kuulostamaan väljähtäneeltä tietokonemusiikilta, ja samoja rave-assosiaatioita herättää myös Fake-kappaleen loppuosa. Täysin feikatuilta eivät dance-vaikutteet Damned Spirits' Dancen toteuttamina kuulosta, mutta kun palanpainikkeeksi heitetään Guess, I'm Dyingin kaltainen tyypillisen paatoksellinen, akustinen balladi, niin jokin yhtälössä ei toimi. Kenties bändillä ei vielä kuitenkaan ole ollut rohkeutta lopettaa levyään Faken tyylisellä, oikeasti uskaliaalla kappaleella.
Toisaalta bändiltä tuntuisi vielä tällä hetkellä luonnistuvan paremmin suoraviivaisemman materiaalin kirjoittaminen, kuten TSS - Toxic Shock Syndrome ja jostain kummasta My Dying Bride -viitteisellä nimellä paiskattu The Angel and the Dark River osoittavat. Yhtä kaikki Weird Constellations on kiistattoman ammattitaitoinen, mutta yliyrittämisen ja toisaalta lopullisen uskalluksen puutteen vuoksi varsin ristiriitaiseksi ja etäiseksi jäävä levy - etenkin albumikokonaisuuden tasolla.

Review
The "true" Norwegian Black Metal may slowly be fading away with very few new bands successfully creating a decent sound within the genre. However the newer more symphonic black metal, that of the likes of dimmu borgir, is very much alive. Hungary may not be known for its music scene, particularly its black metal, but Damned Spirits' Dance are out to get Hungary on the world map.
"Weird Constellations" is Damned Spirits' Dance debut album, cretaed after almost 6 years of hard work by a band that are determined to succeed and with the right backing behind them the band may just be in luck.
The band purposefully go out of their way to bush the genre boundaries to their limits to create a truely unique sound. The vocals range from the harsh, more typical black metal sounding vocals, to the clean sounds found more within the doom genre. The guitars are the same containg both a fast onslaught of sound and a more slower mellow sound, with the drums to back it up with some harsh hitting blast beats. Blend all the above together with the atmospheric sound of the keyboards and you may start to get an idea of the sound Damned Spirits' Dance produce. But with no limits to what they might do you shoudl still be in for a pleasent surprise. As long as it sounds good, Damned Spirits' Dance are boud to do it at some point in there career
Every track on the album sounds unique, some of which, in particular the instrumental title track, sound unlike any other track out there. But despite the tracks all sounding so different, the album flows from one to another, it works.
Damned Spirits' Dance are something special and for the time being there certanly here to stay

Review
The "true" Norwegian Black Metal may slowly be fading away with very few new bands successfully creating a decent sound within the genre. However the newer more symphonic black metal, that of the likes of dimmu borgir, is very much alive. Hungary may not be known for its music scene, particularly its black metal, but Damned Spirits' Dance are out to get Hungary on the world map.
"Weird Constellations" is Damned Spirits' Dance debut album, cretaed after almost 6 years of hard work by a band that are determined to succeed and with the right backing behind them the band may just be in luck.
The band purposefully go out of their way to bush the genre boundaries to their limits to create a truely unique sound. The vocals range from the harsh, more typical black metal sounding vocals, to the clean sounds found more within the doom genre. The guitars are the same containg both a fast onslaught of sound and a more slower mellow sound, with the drums to back it up with some harsh hitting blast beats. Blend all the above together with the atmospheric sound of the keyboards and you may start to get an idea of the sound Damned Spirits' Dance produce. But with no limits to what they might do you shoudl still be in for a pleasent surprise. As long as it sounds good, Damned Spirits' Dance are boud to do it at some point in there career
Every track on the album sounds unique, some of which, in particular the instrumental title track, sound unlike any other track out there. But despite the tracks all sounding so different, the album flows from one to another, it works.
Damned Spirits' Dance are something special and for the time being there certanly here to stay

A háromszámos The Growing Spirit kislemez után lehetett sejteni, hogy a budapesti Damned Spirits Dance-ben valamivel több van annál, semhogy a szerzői kiadás terhe alatt nyögve házaljon zenéjével abban a néhány hazai klubban. Kár is lett volna pár tucat embernek vergődni a honi közönség meg nem értése és passzivitása közepette, így az első nagylemezzel meg sem álltak az olasz Code666 kiadóig, amely olyan, underground szinten nem kis neveknek ad, vagy adott otthont, mint például a norvég Manes, az Aborym, a Void of Silence vagy épp a mélyrepülésben lévő Ephel Duath.
A 11 dalos új lemez alapján elmondható, hogy még a Growing Spiriten hallottaknál is bátrabban, gátlástalanabbul és messzebbre nyújtózkodva merítettek mindenhonnan, ami épp csak eszükbe jutott, s pumpálták csillagközi olvasztótégelyükbe a különféle stílusok a teljesség igénye nélkül: északi black metal, elektronika, szintipop, gótikus rock, jazz, pszichedelikus, progresszív és avantgárd zenék elemeit. A dalok erősebbek lettek, ahogy a hangzás is jobban sikerült ezúttal, szinte már ijesztően profi a végeredmény, Simox hangja pedig változatos, sokszínű, a tiszta ének és a durvább témák sem okoznak neki nehézséget nagyon tehetséges a srác. A kísérletezés, az önfeledt színes kavalkád, a váratlan és meghökkentő stílusok közti váltások, meglepő fordulatok és csavarok továbbra is fő jellemzőik közt találhatók, ez, s a borító színpadias maskarái miatt talán túl könnyen is ugrik be az Arcturus párhuzam. A norvégok stílusa nagyon erősen tetten érhető, ami nem túl szívderítő, mert igaz ugyan, hogy a kislemezen is megvoltak az érezhető hatásaik, de az egy ennél kevésbé profibb, bizonyos szempontból mégis egyénibb anyag volt. Itt a párhuzam egyszerűen túl szembeötlő, annak kozmikus hidegsége és komolysága helyett színpadiasabb és bohókás kivitelben. Mentségükre szóljon, az örömzenei attitűd is körbelengi a lemezt, a produkcióról pedig meg nem lehetne mondani, hogy magyar; a zenészek kiválóan és magabiztosan játszanak, árad belőlük a lehengerlő profizmus, és a dalok is változatosak.
A szép billentyűtémákkal kezdő, remek témákból összeálló elszállós-építkező Cold Winds - A Dream Vision határozottan ívelő mesteri dallamaitól kezdve a TSS barokkos eleganciával vegyített északi black metalt idéző sodrásán át egészen a Fake totális elszállásáig terjed a skála. Utóbbi dal húzós, metalos részei váratlan töréssel váltanak át Scooter-szerű diszkóba; ha ismerős a Fire c. szám, ahogy Baxxter szikrákat szóró gitárral üvölti a dal címét a diszkós alapokra, akkor már el is kaptad a fonalat csak jelen esetben a hidrogén szőke technoguru helyett egy szegecselt alsónadrágos, strandpapucsba, hátulgombolós zubbonyba csomagolt űrkalózzal. A címadó és a Raven ének nélküli szintetizátordarabok, melyek a régi számítógépes játékok prüttyögő zenéit idézik, a So Much to Say... So I Rather Tell None a Hammond-orgonával meg úgy indul, mintha egy hetvenes évekbeli ősrock eposz kerekedne belőle Tony Iommi ujjai alól. A Guess, I'm Dying egy szomorkás hangulatú, líraibb darab, míg az Angel and the Dark Riverben (vajon honnan a cím?) Pusztai Judit ereszti ki hangját, így egy Nightwish-szerű galoppozós, gyors black metalos részekkel vegyített durvulás kerekedik belőle, ami meglepően jó lett a progresszív jelző tehát nem a Dream Theater-i értelemben áll a DSD-re. A hangzás kiváló, a felvételek abban a Fader stúdióban készültek, amely a ManGod Inc. Near Life Experience lemezének felvételével egy időben épült, a felvételeknél Scheer Max Viktor bábáskodott, s a basszusgitár témáit is ő játszotta fel, a borító pedig a színvilágával és a tagok fotóival a szép és a kínos közt egyensúlyozik.
Sokáig lehetne még elemezni, boncolgatni a dalokat, s ahogy az a hasonló kísérletezős anyagok esetében lenni szokott, az értékelés sem lehet egyértelmű; van, hogy egymás után többször is lepörög a lemez, máskor meg napokig nem érzem a késztetést rá, hogy újra előszedjem, vagy csak egyszerűen idegesít. Ettől függetlenül minőségi, nyugati színvonalú munka, csak a hatásokat kellene legközelebb jobban elrejteni.

Metal, jazz, dance, seventies rock to the accompany of a synthesizer. I think this is the best way to describe Damned Spirits Dance from Hungary when listening to their new release called Weird Constellations.
This might just be the strangest album I’ve listened to in a long while. When I use the word strange, I don’t mean that in a disapproving or disliking way, on the contrary. Let me try to capture in words why Weird Constellations proves that strange can be good as well.
It takes a few turns before you are able to fray all the aspects of the songs. I think it’s fair enough to state that the fundament is a very theatrical kind of black metal blended with some unusual, or should I say unexpected, characteristics of completely different music. The organ (well, rather the keyboards) has a very prominent place in the tracks and seems to be capable of turning a metal song into a dance track within seconds. Vocalist Sinox changes from metal screams to beautiful clean vocals seemingly without any effort and the guitar riffs, and of course the guitar solos, twist the tracks easily from a seventies rock style into a more jazzy sound. All of this happens in such a rush, you need to sit down and take your time and energy in order to analyse it in a righteous matter. I really appreciate the acoustic 'Guess, I’m Dying' because that leaves you with an intoxication of silence, even though the entire album felt like a fast train.
Damned Spirits Dance definitely produced something for the open minded metal head. There are so many different influences on this album, it’s as if you’re listening to a stream of different genres, but fortunately all by the same band, because on Weird Constellation they were capable of fitting the pieces of the puzzle right into each other. Damned Spirits Dance has a recognizable sound which makes the entire album cohesive despite the fact they mix metal with the most diverse elements of other styles. To me, this album was much needed to get that small, but oh so necessary breeze of fresh air.

Damned Spirits Dance past may lie within black metal. But dont be fooled as they certainly have lots to offer the listeners of their debut album Weird Constellations.
Describing Damned Spirits Dance sound is certainly not easy task. Think Dimmu Borgir meets Mr Bungle. The music ranges from Brutal black metal on tracks Toxic Shock Syndrome and The Angel and the Dark River To head banging thrash in the vain of bands such as "At the Gates" and the Haunted on track Fake and Cold Winds- A Dreams Vision. Just when you thought you knew what you were getting they add lashings of Dance music, on album title track Damned Spirits Dance and Raven. The keyboards parts, play a very important role in the construction of the album. They vary from rich synth to strange abstract sounds. Another unique factor is vocalist Sinox who has an incredible range and diversity to his vocal talent .Which really allows the band to slip into various genres of music with the greatest of ease.
The album Weird Constellations certainly lives up to its name. This is certainly a band that enjoys pushing musical boundaries which works to their credit.
Weird Constellations is packed with interesting ideas, and showcases a great display of what is possible. Definitely worth listening to if you like bands who arent afraid to experiment whilst maintaining a high degree of musicianship.

Quello degli ungheresi Damned SpiritsDance è un metal davanguardia figlio degli Arcturus, richiamati sia nel campo musicale che in quello visivo. Lo scenario della band rappresenta infatti lo spazio profondo e il look di questo combo emergente è chiaramente ispirato allo stile extraterrestre adottato dai norvegesi.
Ai nostri però, non manca né una forte dose di ironia nellaffrontare questo percorso né una certa personalità. Se lopener Visioner con i suoi passaggi di tastiera cupi e distorti ricorda subito una Master Of Disguise, notiamo poi come il five-piece di Budapest percorra una strada parallela ma differente, mostrando subito i muscoli e un bagaglio tecnico di notevole fattura.
Poche le divagazioni progressive, Weird Constellations predilige senza dubbio una commistione tra il black metal melodico e sprazzi di sarcastica follia, tra musica classica, siynth-pop, rap (sì, cè anche quello) e addirittura musica techno.
Tanto che, se la vostra mente è sufficientemente elastica, sarà estremamente semplice lasciarsi andare a episodi multicolore come Black Savage, The Angel And The Dark River e ancora Fake, forse il brano più intrigante del lotto. Non ultimo, al di là della loro ricchezza, i pezzi risultano sempre scorrevoli e non complicati allascolto.
Ci piace pensare che band come i Damned SpiritsDance abbiano una marcia in più, ossia la capacità di elaborare le proprie influenze in modo naturale senza risultare derivativi. Avanti così.

Recently, I was watching a video on YouTube with Steve Vai who was saying that he was into Hungarian's wedding music, due to various elements making the musicians wandering off onto something totally different. Weird Constellation is by no means wedding music, don't worry. On the other hand, this Hungarian act that goes by the name of Damned Spirits Dance sure comes up with some cool wandering off.
Being a bit skeptical about these guys, especially by their look on the cover art, I was wondering if this would be any good. The answer to this question is simply yes, it is very good! Avant-garde Metal is not for the stiff minds and purists. Even if they have a weird name, those musicians are very talented; able to compose fresh and original music. This eleven track album encompass a wide, and somewhat strange, mixture of influences such as: Progressive, Black Metal, techno, rock, ambient, and makes it all work very well together. Well done, very well done, this disc remains entertaining from beginning to end. I could have done without the techno-bouncy sounds personally, although they don't actually last very long. Two short instrumentals, "Weird Constellation", and "Raven" are mostly the place to find them. Switching from Black Metal to techno and then to melodic acoustic guitars and clean vocals is not without being demanding, and those artists pull it off quite nicely. Among my favorite songs are the weirder numbers like: "Devil's on his Way" and "Cold Winds/a Dream Vision". The same goes for the crunchier tunes such as: "TSS" and "So Much to Say So I Rather Tell None". Closing track is showing a calmer side of their personality, and it is where you can hear some nice acoustic guitars.
Weird Constellations is the album to get if you are looking for refreshing Metal in prevision for the hot summer days ahead.

Igaz ugyan, hogy a hazai metálszíntér még nem elég érett az avantgarde-ra (a Gire, a Thy Catafalque, sőt még a legendás Tormentor utolsó lemeze is csak egy szűkebb réteget érdekel), de új színre lépőként azért kezdhetjük szokni az eleinte csak projektnek indult Damned Spirits Dance nevét, hisz újabban egyre több helyen találkozni velük. És nem véletlenül.
A banda nyilván némi előnnyel indul, hisz soraiban ott van Sacrun, az Alhana billentyűse, és Sigan, aki a Sin Of Kain és a Bornholm dobjait veri laposra. A black metálos nevek nem tudom, mennyire vehetők komolyan ez esetben... a borítót és a zenekar fotóit elnézve nem biztos, hogy nagyon. Érzek egy kevés iróniát bennük, és amit hallunk, az sem teljesen komoly. Nem könnyen behatárolható, alapvetően black metal a súlyosabb fajtából, ehhez jönnek a melodikus, heavy metal riffek, s a káosz fejére a koronát azonban a 90-es évek eurodiszkójából és rave zenéjéből importált billentyűtémák teszik: nincs is szebb annál, mikor egy károgós black tétel hirtelen Scooter-ba vált. Így talán nem is meglepő, hogy a zenekart az a kiadó (Code666) vállalta fel, amelyiknél többek közt a szintén nem az épelméjűségről ismert Aborym is jelentetett már meg lemezt, és jelenleg is ide tartozik a Transsylvania-ügyben legilletékesebb, és az európai színtéren ma az egyik legjobbnak számító román Negura Bunget is.
A Damned Spirits Dance azonban nem annyira őrült és extrém, mint nevezett pályatársaik. A kezdő Visioner keményebb black témáit is ügyesen vegyítik a dallamos részekkel: enyhén darkos énektémák és a jellegzetes károgás váltakoznak, a dal végébe pedig egy pici indusztriális black is belefért. A Cold Winds - A Dream Vision ezzel szemben a heavy metal felől közelít, ennek megfelelően a gitárszóló is kidolgozott. A TSS az epikus black metal gyökerekhez nyúl vissza, míg a Black Savage a progresszív metál felé tesz kirándulást, míg az instrumentális, agyoneffektezett Raven könnyed diszkóslágere után a So Much to Say... So I Rather Tell None heavy/black riffjei helyre teszik a dolgokat. A lemez csúcspontja a szélsebesen indító Fake, ami minden átmenet nélkül vált hirtelen black metalból rave-be, hogy aztán minden stíluselemet felvonultasson, amivel az albumon már találkozhattunk, mintegy összegezve az egészet.
Bár adva van jópár kapaszkodónak szánt dallam, mégsem egyszerű fogást találni a DSD lemezén: sokminden történik, de mindig jól jönnek ki belőle. Aki szereti a szokványostól eltérő, ötletes dolgokat a metálzenében, annak mindenképp ajánlott.

A banda nyilván némi előnnyel indul, hisz soraiban ott van Sacrun, az Alhana billentyűse, és Sigan, aki a Sin Of Kain és a Bornholm dobjait veri laposra. A black metálos nevek nem tudom, mennyire vehetők komolyan ez esetben... a borítót és a zenekar fotóit elnézve nem biztos, hogy nagyon. Érzek egy kevés iróniát bennük, és amit hallunk, az sem teljesen komoly. Nem könnyen behatárolható, alapvetően black metal a súlyosabb fajtából, ehhez jönnek a melodikus, heavy metal riffek, s a káosz fejére a koronát azonban a 90-es évek eurodiszkójából és rave zenéjéből importált billentyűtémák teszik: nincs is szebb annál, mikor egy károgós black tétel hirtelen Scooter-ba vált. Így talán nem is meglepő, hogy a zenekart az a kiadó (Code666) vállalta fel, amelyiknél többek közt a szintén nem az épelméjűségről ismert Aborym is jelentetett már meg lemezt, és jelenleg is ide tartozik a Transsylvania-ügyben legilletékesebb, és az európai színtéren ma az egyik legjobbnak számító román Negura Bunget is.
A Damned Spirits Dance azonban nem annyira őrült és extrém, mint nevezett pályatársaik. A kezdő Visioner keményebb black témáit is ügyesen vegyítik a dallamos részekkel: enyhén darkos énektémák és a jellegzetes károgás váltakoznak, a dal végébe pedig egy pici indusztriális black is belefért. A Cold Winds - A Dream Vision ezzel szemben a heavy metal felől közelít, ennek megfelelően a gitárszóló is kidolgozott. A TSS az epikus black metal gyökerekhez nyúl vissza, míg a Black Savage a progresszív metál felé tesz kirándulást, míg az instrumentális, agyoneffektezett Raven könnyed diszkóslágere után a So Much to Say... So I Rather Tell None heavy/black riffjei helyre teszik a dolgokat. A lemez csúcspontja a szélsebesen indító Fake, ami minden átmenet nélkül vált hirtelen black metalból rave-be, hogy aztán minden stíluselemet felvonultasson, amivel az albumon már találkozhattunk, mintegy összegezve az egészet.
Bár adva van jópár kapaszkodónak szánt dallam, mégsem egyszerű fogást találni a DSD lemezén: sokminden történik, de mindig jól jönnek ki belőle. Aki szereti a szokványostól eltérő, ötletes dolgokat a metálzenében, annak mindenképp ajánlott.

Ugyan még 2002-ben alakult a budapesti zenekar és 2004-ben kiadták a Hide from Daylight demót, nekem egészen tavaly év végéig fogalmam sem volt a létezésükről. Ekkor vettek fel ugyanis a srácok myspace-en, ahol elég volt két dalba belehallgatni, máris megnyertek maguknak. Akkor még csak tervezgették jelen korong kiadását, mert a menet közben elkészült The Growing Spirit EP is csak hosszú csúszás után jelenhetett meg a széperényű Vic Records jóvoltából. A bemutatkozó lemezt viszont már az olasz Code666 gondozza, akik istállójában az experimentális black metal olyan ászai is ott figyelnek, mint pl. az Aborym.
Sok helyen lehetett már olvasni, hogy a srácokra nagy hatást gyakorolt az Arcturus. Igen, Simenék hatása kétségkívül tetten érhető mind a zenében, mind az olyan külsőségekben, mint a borító és a zenekari fotók. Innentől viszont akár jegelhetjük is ezt az információt, mert hazánk fiai olyan területekre is merészkednek, amelyet a norvégok inkább hanyagolnak. Kétségkívül közös pont az elektronika és a különböző samplerek által a black metalos, helyenként gothic hatásokkal tarkított zene kozmikus jellege. Váratlan, meghökkentő váltások tarkítják a dalokat, azonban az erőteljes techno-hatás felettébb szokatlan, elsőre nem is tudtam hová tenni magamban. Mert ha őszinte akarok lenni, akkor az efféle dolgok nekem az életben sem tetszettek, sem önálló műfajként, sem metal lemezeken.
De azért nem kell megijedni, szó sincs diszkóról, ez bizony fém a javából. Azért arra kíváncsi lettem volna, milyen ötlettől vezérelve állították össze ezt a fura sorrendet. Mert hát majdnem végig megmarad az az osztás, hogy egy borultabb, elszállós szerzemény után egy kifejezetten zúzós következik. A Cold Winds A Dream Vision és a TSS abszolút telitalálat ebből a szempontból, számomra ezek a legjobb pillanatok. Illetve a The Angel and the Dark River is, amelyben még női éneket is kapunk, ami vitán felül jól illeszkedik a dal hangulatához, egy black metalba oltott Lacuna Coil ugrott be ennek hallatán. A Hammondos témával induló So Much to Say... So I Rather Tell None meg totál doom/ősrock elszállás, a Killjoy-módra acsarkodó ének később azonban visszarángatja a hallgatót a lebegésből. Másik oldalról viszont ott vannak azok a nóták, amelyeket nem vesz be maradéktalanul a gyomrom. Pl. a Devils on His Way furcsa dallamai, a Raven prüntyögése, valamint a Fake őrülete, ahol a durva kalapálás egy pillanat alatt vált át Scooteres rave-be (avagy technóba). Mi a franc? Hát lehet, hogy egyeseknek ez tetszik, nekem momentán nem. Poénnak mondjuk elmegy...
Feltétlen pozitívum a precíz hangszeres játék, és a kiváló hangzás. Ez utóbbi annak a Fader stúdiónak a szakértelmét dicséri, ahol a Mangod Inc. is rögzítette debütlemezét. És nem utolsósorban Scheer Max Viktor itt is részt vett a gombok tekergetésében, mi több, a bőgőtémákat is ő játszotta fel.
Ha csak úgy valaki megmutatja ezt a korongot, meg nem mondtam volna, hogy hazai alkotás. Jó, egyre több ilyen produkció akad itthon is, ami simán hozza a nyugati színvonalat (sőt!), de ez magasan kiemelkedik azok közül is. Bármennyire azt gondolnánk, hogy az összeomlóban lévő lemezpiac miatt ismeretlen magyar zenekaroknak ma már esélyük nincs lemezszerződést kapni, pláne külföldön, ahol a mérce sokkal magasabb, mint itthon, a helyzet mégis az, hogy akadnak kivételek. Főleg a nagyközönség által kevésbé hallgatott műfajoknak vannak meg a saját, specifikus hálószoba-kiadói, amelyek ha nem is pumpálnak milliókat egy-egy lemezbe, mégis képesek arra, hogy az arra fogékony közönséghez, illetve a kompetens médiához eljuttassák az anyagot.
A Damned Spirits' Dance első lemezénél nem kisebb kiadót csípett meg, mint az avantgarde metal egyik komoly európai intézményét, a Code666-et, ami többek közt az Aborym (itt játszott rövid ideig a Mayhem/SunnO)))-énekes Csihar Attila), a Manes vagy az egykori Cynic zenészeit is felsorakoztató Aghora lemezeit jelenteti meg. A Weird Constellations névre keresztelt debütáló Damned Spirits' Dance-lemez egyrészt minőségi alkotás, másrészt beleillik a Code666 koncepciójába: olyasféle, black metal alapokon nyugvó, merész kísérletekkel tarkított zenéről van szó, aminek a legismertebb képviselője talán a norvég black metal zenészek projektjeként kultikus hírnevet kivívott Arcturus vagy a Ved Buens Ende. A Weird Constellations legnagyobb vonzereje, hogy a húszas éveik közepén járó zenészek képesek voltak az eklektikus és néha egészen elvetemült zenei kicsapongásokat tartalmazó dalokat minden öncélúságtól mentesen egységes és szórakoztató anyaggá kovácsolni. Így a Fake-be pofátlan merészséggel beletett, kilencvenes évekből újrahasznosított eurotechnószerű betét pontosan annyira jótékonyan simul az anyagba, mint a tradicionálisabb hangvételű Toxic Shock Syndrome gyors, black metalos indítása vagy a záró Guess I'm Dying jobbára egy szál akusztikus gitárra és némi elektronikára épített témái.
