Great interview! The only thing I don't get is Dan's opinion of the Spectral Sorrows: this album is littered with classic metal tracks! Spectral Sorrows, Darkday, Lost, The Masque, Across the Fields of Forever, and The Other Side are some of the best melodic DM songs on the face of the earth! This is one of the major reasons that I started to write melodic DM songs, with powerful vocals over overtly melodic rythms. I used to write to Dan in the mid 90's, it was pretty cool getting letters and tapes from him (we traded tapes a few times). He gave me hints about the sound/style on Crimson and Infernal before they were released and I am such a fanboy, that was great!
