You read right...

just over 40,000 copies sold (and this is only from Soundscan participating stores... which doesn't count Internet sales and most mom & pop stores)... and #18 :hotjump:

all this with virtually NO airplay

well done boyz

I'll give it a week. Come Tuesday, the album probably won't be in the Top 50 chart spaces, but that's just my guess.

Having listened to the disc throughout the days, I can say that I am thoroughly unimpressed with the new album with the exception being about 3 tunes and one of those tunes sounds like filler that is only slightly better than standard Iron Maiden filler.

It's still better than Ain't Anger, but not by much.:erk:

oy vey... not by much???
Yes, not by much. I was looking forward to this CD, especially after BNW. Sadly, there's not really all that much that I like about this disc. Currently, it's at home and it doesn't look to be coming out any time soon.

I haven't felt this disappointed with an album since Kiss' Hot in the Shade album.

At the moment I tend to agree. I wish there was more Smith/Harris song collaborations. 'Paschendale' stood out to me but not much else; however, with BNW it took several listens before I liked it.
Saying its not much better than St. Angerless... ouch.
I'm just glad Iron Maiden is still putting out new albums at this point in their career. Metallica on the other hand can throw in the towel as far as I'm concerned.

Well, that's your opinion, Smylex, and you're entitled to it. Many people also think Eminem and The Backstreet Boys are the greatest recording artists of all time. ;)

I give Iron Maiden a lot credit for never selling out and going with the music trends just to make a buck and to get MTV airplay. Is Dance of Death another Number of the Beast or Powerslave? No, that was twenty years ago; the band's sound is constantly evolving; however, DoD is great in its own right. I am very pleased with their latest release; I must have listened to it twenty times already.

Listened to the album about 20 times or so. I love it. As you said, the so called "Great" albums of Maiden were 20+ years ago, and one thing Steve never wants to do is make the next album sound like the last. Original, unique, and with some damn good tunes, I rank it in the top 5 of their efforts.

For those who don't think it's heavy enough, I say listen to it again, pay attention to the riffs.. they are fast, hard and heavy. And Paschendale has to be one of the greatest songs they have ever done.

PS: Maiden fan since 81 :) hehe. Long live oldtimers!

"Klansman"??
The idiot reviewer obviously spelled the song wrong.

There's a BIG difference between "Clansman" and "Klansman". Notice how Bruce always explains the song before it's played so that American audiences will know it's not about the KKK.
