I say Danny. Danny's solo on that DVD from 1986 was just amazing. Totally left me breathless. I mean all Kirk Hammett used to be was speed.

MetalT

Danny. Atleast he doesn't resort to wearing eyeliner and looking like he sells his arse between gigs.

Kirk is definately overated.. his wah wah solos in the ninties were terrible and his solos back in the day were pretty fucking cool

but my favourite solo of all time between the two is Dans in Who Cares Wins.... so Dan gets the cake

Kirk Hammett, One, Bleeding Me, Fade To Black, Struggle Within, Damage Inc., Orion. There's some truly epic solos in his catalogue. Dan's solos never struck me as anything other than cool. However if you create the topic Kerry King vs Dan Spitz I'll definitely vote for Dan.

Let's see.............

One one hand we have a psycho cross-eyed midgett who is boring as fuck on stage, has a greater passion for watches then guitar, and seems to have lost his grip on reality almost completely.

On the other hand, we have a seemingly gay, passive, seel-out who seems to think that the wah wah peddle is more important then the guitar he is actually playing.

They both recieve the Thrillho D-

Both amazing guys in their day - but I lost all respect for kirk. Mainly because he chooses to stay in Metallica. The BIGGEST sell-out band ever. A band that tells him "We are not going to have lead guitar on this record" and he LETS THEM have their way. It's bad enough he has not played a good lead in years, but now they have taken away his use in the band, and he continues to stick it out. It's not like he needs the money.

Spitz, what can I say, the man scares me. Straight up. I love all the work he did with Anthrax, but let's face it - it is hard to compare these two. We have not heard a new lead out of Spitz since SOWN. I mean, we know Kirk continued to decline - maybe Spitz still has some aces up his sleave, we won't know for a while if we ever do get to find out.

So yeah I pick Dimebag.

I think Kirk may technically the better guitarist, but I respect Dan a hell of a lot more.

Kirk.

I know he is one of the most overrated guitarists of all time, but go back and relisten to some of his solos. Yeah some of the early stuff was mindless speed (not shreading, rather hammer ons and pull offs :/ ) , but listen to some of his solos of the black album. Some of them are fucking decent. (Unforgiven, Wherever i may roam etc.)

Danny is cool coz he has his own sound, but thats where it ends with him.

Kirk has probably been more influential and looks better on stage, Spitz probably had some technically better leads.

Techinicaly speaking, from a musicians ear, Dan is a more technical player. Kirk's best work was AJFA, and yes, he did have some good shit on the Black Album. Why? Because he was pissed. Once he got the money and lost the anger, the wah pedal came back and since it has been really bad for him.

I think Kirk's best solos are ride the lightening, and mostly everything on AJFA. Dan has been much more consistent, but, again, we have not heard dan play a new lead in 10 years
