Dark/sad singer-songwriter music

^Same for me, ''Murder Ballads'' is the only Cave album that i like as a whole...i like some of his songs from other albums but that is it...gotta love his duet with Kylie Mynogue tbh.

It's a band as opposed to a solo artist, but Low have some pretty excellent stuff in this kind of style.

Check out a song like... 'In The *****', maybe?

*EDIT* anyone know why it won't let me type the word 'd r u g s'?

- "drug" (along with a bunch of other related words) is censored because of an influx of prescription drug scumballs spamming the forum. It makes it a lot of work and a pain for them to work around it and hopefully they just go away.

Might as well lump in a recommendation that I forgot to put in my starting post: Michael Gira. He was the male half of the incredible band Swans and he has atleast one interesting solo album called Drainland. I haven't heard any of his other works because his solo stuff is difficult to find online (I bought Drainland without having heard it before, but it turned out to be a good purchase). I believe some of his solo output is spoken word material or something.
