Music suggestions for when you're down...

Hmm I am sure this has been done before, but when you're feeling heartbroken, sad or just depressed, what music do you listen to (not necessarily metal)? Either to wallow in it, or to cheer you up? I definitely need some suggestions because I think if I listen to another Nick Drake or John Frusciante album I am going to melt into a pathetic little puddle of...yeah whatever I'd melt into. Haha.

:(

But yeah any suggestions my ladies and gentlemen?

i try not to let music compliment my emotion when it's an unpleasant emotion. it just doesn't seem like a good idea.

i kind of like more rock driven, groovey metal to inspire dancey cheer; starport blues by slough feg, icarus by maiden, maybe stare too long or sleeping martyr by COC, maybe some sir lord baltimore... *shrug*

pretty voices make me happy, too... so i might start looking for my bruce, evergrey, or symphony x

Listen to Venom. You can't help but smile when Venom is playing. Teacher's Pet should put a huge smirk on your face

I've actually just recently started listening to a song from Behemoth called 23 (The Youth Manifesto). It's a short song and it's very powerful, lyrically.

The part that gets me back to normal is...
MY SPIRIT
MY WORDS
MY STRENGTH
LIVES ON!

Elliott Smith or Joy Division. I find it hard not to find solace and friendship in the words of either band.

"Feeling, feeling, feeling, feeling, feeling, feeeeeeeling".

Depends on how down. Something like the Swans for the angrier down/depression feeling, or Jarboe. If I'm significantly depressed, I tend to turn to Miles Davis. "Kind of Blue" is pretty much an ultimate escape.

Spiritual Front: Songs for the Will or the Nihilist EP.

but yeah, as said above, Swans & Jarboe stuff (Soundtracks for the Blind!) and Joy Division are also great.

I've got lots more suggestions for this sort of stuff, but I don't want to make it seem like I'm a continually depressed retard (which I often actually am).

I listen to a lot of My Dying Bride, Porcupine Tree, Anathema (more recently), Katatonia and such...

And when I'm really down I listen to a lot of Drudkh, Bethlehem, Nortt, and stuff like that.

You seem to feel down quite often lately, Jen. I hope you are alright. I usually listen to Tom Waits, Nick Cave or Billie Holiday (or any other jazz)
