Dark Tranquility

Is it just me, or does DT's vocalist totally suck? When I heard some of their stuff I tried to look past the vocals but I just couldn't, and the music didn't seem that majestic as to justify the effort. I was expecting this "intelligent" music by the way they are described on their website, man that funny. Maybe if I was 17 I'd feel differently, but I've gotten used to a certain quality of sound now and I can't change that.

I seriously can't understand what the big deal about DT is. But then, I also consider Dream Theatre a glam metal hair band. Oh well, at least they look good in eye-liner.

Strange... For I think Mikael Stanne is the only vocalist who can really beat Mikael ÅKerfeldt - and I really am not alone at that!

Were you listening to Skydancer? It has Anders Fridén on vocals instead of Stanne and he sounds far worse than he sounds on In Flames -records.

And about "majestic" and "intelligent", I find both those qualities in Dark Tranquillity (yes, it is written with two l's, Confessor), the latter one more.

Some good songs by DT:

-Punish My Heaven
-The Gallery
-Lethe
-Mine is the Grandeur...Of Melancholy Burning
-Hedon
-Insanity's Crescendo
-UnDo Control
-To a Bitter Halt
-Nether Novas
-Haven
-Rundown

Also, "A Bolt of Blazing Gold" and "Shadow Duet" from Skydancer are great, the vocals are just a bit disappointing.

Ok can anyone tell me if DT ever did another song like The Mind's Eye? Or any equally beautiful song like that one. I really like it.
Anathema's "snow bound" is sorta kinda similar. Check that song out.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.
I like the chick in Insanitys Crescendo. though she sounds like dave mustaine at the begining of the song. hahah
Anyways I really like that song, and Mine Is The Grandeur is pretty great too.

You sure aren't! i loooooooove mikeal stanne's vox especially his clean vox...and yes i also think he can beat mikeal åkerfedlt...

Satori,

I would also like to know what album of their's you heard. I don't think his growls are all that amazing on their newest disc, Haven, but his work on both the Mind's I and especially The Gallery is amazing. In fact make sure that you listen to The Gallery before you write this band off as mundane.

I couldn't disagree more.

satori, no surprise, i guess, but i have to agree with you about the vocals. i can't believe people are saying he's better than mikael. like, i choked when i read that. his clean vocals are really strained, like they're trapped in the back of his throat or something. but i like the music enough to still listen to them.

Yeah, I must agree his clean vocals are not so great, but I was talking about the growls, anyway.

Gosh, I think Stanne's growls rival with Åkerfeldt's, they're emotionally so rich. Vivid.

I think Stanne's clean vocals are really great as well. Sure, it sounds like they're trapped in the back of his throat or something, but I really like them nonetheless.
