Dark Tranquillity - New Album "Endtime Signals" out 2024-08-16

Wayward Eyes has a massive Time Out of Place feel to the chorus melody, which is great to me because I fucking love that song.

Absolutely. I think the song shines the most in the second chorus, when you have that uptempo drum beat (as opposed to the first chorus) and the synth plucks just kind of going at it. Not to mention very tasteful/smart use of palm-muting from Reinholdz. Meshes really well with Stanne's vocal melodies. That changeup at 1:55 is killer, too.

Have to listen to the album again later today. Overall this was a nice surprise. Bunch of strong songs, but Wayward Eyes is "the" song of this album for me.

Completely agreed here.

Also, holy shit, this is another SOAPF situation where this is the first DT album to only have one guitarist. I didn’t know Amott officially left the band (Though it does make sense given family stuff), but Johan did a phenomenal job on his own here.

Yeah, Johan stepped up for sure. I think Atoma was the last one that had just one guitarist (Sundin) -- definitely a big lift when it's just one person doing all the leads and the rhythms in the studio.

Endtime Signals fucking rips. For me, this is probably the best album since Fiction. My DT tier list is very different than any other MDM band in that their "classics" aren't at the very top for me. I love those albums, I just love a few others more.

For me: (right now)

Fiction
Projector
The Mind's I
The Gallery
Skydancer
Damage Done
Character
Atoma
Haven
Construct
Moment
We Are The Void

Fiction and Projector rotate for me depending on the week. I could see Endtime Signals creeping up to that middle section for sure. And yeah, Wayward Eyes is a top 3 track on this album for me, great song.

Yeah, I think right now I'd go like this:

Projector / Fiction
Damage Done
The Gallery / The Mind's I
Character
Atoma / Moment
We are the Void
Skydancer
Haven
Construct

I can see Endtime Signals being either on par with Atoma / Moment or between them and Character.

What are your favorite songs on Endtime Signals?

Mine:

1. Enforced Perspective
2. Drowned Out Voices
3. Unforgivable
4. The Last Imagination
5. Not Nothing

Beautiful album, a step up from the last two releases which were less catchy IMO.

One of the best DT Artwork regarding my personal taste and great production too.

It would need more agression to be perfect though, plus the chorus on "Wayward Eyes" had the potential to be more emotional.
I also think the first song is not the best opener for an album as it lacks a bit of energy to me. The last song could have been more intense too.

That said, well done to the band and huge respect to Johan Reinholdz for carrying the writing of this new album along with the last two historical members left.

7,5/10

Some songs really grew on me lately such as : A Bleaker Sun, Our Disconnect, Wayward Eyes
Quite a melancholic album but more catchy than the previous one, love it :kickass:

Anyone knows why the official album artwork merch can't be found anywhere?

Just found this weird spanish website :

I listened to the album again with my father a few days ago and grew to love the singles a bit more, and I listened to the album with a friend today and grew to enjoy the songs I didn’t care for a bit more. The big thing I really don’t like, having really noticed it with headphones on, is just how far back the cymbals are in the mix. It’s such a baffling thing, and I really don’t like it. The rest of the drums are rather audible, and I think that’s great, but you only really hear the cymbals in False Reflection. It’s something I just can’t I hear now, and it gives a bit of an incomplete feel to the mix overall.

I found the album art shirt on Napalm Records’ store, but it’s a European page. Haven’t found a US store selling it.

Apparently it's not available anymore, there's just "The Last Imagination" artwork left (which I did already order along with the vinyl)

Very strange since the album just came out... Maybe they're all sold out.

Wayward Eyes is killer and it deserved a higher effort for its music video.

Album seems considerably better to me now after a few days than on the first listen. I've come to realize that being overly attentive and expecting too much on the initial listen is not only a waste of time but also terribly unfair towards any piece of music.
I'm really looking forward to listening to this album as autumn sets in while running errands for the next month or two.

I feel the same way honestly. I've found that if I'm doing something else while listening rather than sitting here just focusing on the music, I enjoy it a lot more. If I'm working or driving or working out, whatever it is, I generally have a much more favorable experience.

Yeah that's a pretty cool little track. It's nice to hear Stanne in a project where he isn't expected to do any growling. Some people don't like his clean vocals, but I think he has a great singing voice. The problem is that in DT his singing tends to be pigeonholed into a specific type of style. Cemetary Skyline gives him a chance to expand his horizons a little., whilst still settling into a range that he's comfortable with.
