Darkthrone info please.

you should buy it if you consider yourself a big black metal fan. just to check them out. Their albums sound like they were recorded in an ass crack though. thats the way it was meant to sound though i guess. i dont know if you dont mind bad production then buy it i guess. if you do then dont.

What they are like: They are very unique, back in the day of A Blaze In The Northern Sky they were the 1st black metal band of the new era.
Who are they comparable to: Id say Mayhem, Taake, old Emperor stuff like that, its very simplistic music, yet i think it rules
What should i buy: You should 1st buy A Blaze In The Northern Sky since its their most classic one, then buy Transilvanian Hunger.
What should i avoid: not much, i think all of darkthrones albums are good.
thanks a lot: hey np :p

you should buy it if you consider yourself a big black metal fan.

If someone considers himself a big black metal fan, then he should already know what darkthrone is all about.
I dont think its bad production, it was just meant the way it was made like you said. Fenriz wanted the most evil music at the time and he got it.

But if you aren't a black metal fan, and want some incredible Death metal withkick-ass drumming, pick up darkthrones Goatlord, the only album I have by them (yet!). I seriously need transilvanian hunger......

Check out the Darkthrone reviews at www.chedsey.com - I pretty much agree with them. (Even though I don't usually agree with the reviews on that site).

Each album sounds different, "Blaze In The Northern Sky" still has some of their early death metal influence, but with a much blacker style and "Under A Funeral Moon" is heavily Bathory influenced. Whereas, "Panzerfaust" had elements of Celtic Frost.

Try to avoid "Goatlord" or "Soulside Journey" when your first starting off, because those aren't really an accurate reflection of how good Darkthrone are. This is similar with "Total Death", it's not the best album they've released....

My advice is to start with "Blaze" and work your way in order towards "Plagueweilder". Then you'll get to see how the band have developed.

As for production, does that really matter? If you've got amazing music then that will always win hands down, just look at Emperor's "In The Nightside Eclipse"....
