Darren White

Remember all people in times of eternity/alt4 bashing Anathema because they wanted Darren back ("he is a metalhead", "he growls", "he sings better", etc....), now what do they think about Darren's music, clean vocals, haircut ??? :tickled:

ps: I don't hate Darren :cool: , only that people, don't hide!!!!!

I am flattered. Thanks gentlemen.
I often think of doing a book or something like this, but two people buying it aint even gonna pay for doing the cover. Besides, all that photocopying would take me ages.
I have been "kind of" working on it anyway with all the photography, the words, the anarchic "hippy" ideas and conspiracy theories. I would even still "Save the Gay Whale" as Dunc used to say!
The only thing is I have some ego problems with telling those stories because it sometimes feels like I am boasting, or that surely they cannot be true; for example, the "Let's get Jamie a bird in down-town Bucharest" one, where we were dragging him round the city into people's houses. Besides, he certainly wouldn't have been up for it.
Or, also from Romania;
"There's a Riot near Transylvania: Parts One, Two, Three and Four"
Or, from Belgium;
"I'm Sick of it All and me bus won't start cause some bastard scouser pissed in the tank"
Or, a real bad one from Munich (with alternative titles);
"I've got a bottle of whisky and I'll use it / Your leather boots don't scare me"
There are a couple of stories that could be called;
"Oops, the band are on", where the lads just started without me cause I was chatting with mates in the audience or having a shit or something.
I remember us all being so proud of a fax sent by one unfortunate European promoter to our record label that said "Anathema are a very dirty band". It also said some other classic things, and we even considered putting it on the cover of Pentecost III at one stage. Anyway, time to stop now... I am in Hanoi, Vietnam and I'm off for a cold one. It's a hot and humid evening.

ooh fuck I forgot about Munich. Lost me Jock Stewart coat that night + all me money :(

Where were all these kind people when I needed them most?
John, I don't reckon me vocals have gone "clean" or anything. Do you mean with Dead Men Dream? Do you think they are clean with DMD? Should I muddy em up a bit? I cannot really go back to deep growls except for a nostalgic laugh, but I felt that they were at least quite "hard" on the Dead Men Dream songs I recorded. Anyway, I don't really wanna do that old style cause I think its been done "to death", so to speak. The only "deathy" style that I think may never be dated is Chris Reifert's (Autopsy) twisted screams. Maybe I'll try doing some sick and twisted (but eternally mournful) screams in a couple of songs to please the old firm.
There's a darkness still inside me, and it's screaming to be released. I've tried contacting it, but it hurts. It will only come out with the happiness of hearing some excellent grinding riffs that inspire. Hopefully the Dead Men Dream gentlemen have some good stuff for me to hear soon (they're sending me a CD of new ideas out to Vietnam so I can get "into the groove").
Apart from all that, I still have to prove to myself that I can sing tunes that people remember. I was always trying styles other than the old "death" style even in the old "death" days.
I think I've gone on too much now. It's probably not that relevant to many who read this site. Most people reading this got into Anathema after I was in the band and so associate me with that old death style, when in actual fact we were all into it at one point, and we have all moved on since. I was into similar stuff as the other guys (my old best mates) and we grew up together. Despite not seeing much of them at all after "The Silent Enigma disaster" because I moved away from Liverpool, our musical tastes evolved together. In fact, when I hear their albums I always cringe because it is on such a similar level as my head is at the time (as if I am still in the band - sounds wierd I know).

PS: my hair is right now more messy than ever.

I'm actually interested in what you are saying!

Daz check your private messages!

Cheers Patto, just have. Where are you now? At home in Eire? I'll be back in November, back in November. Then I'll be heading off towards India again in about February, so do you reckon we're gonna find time to do some recording together again in that short time? Where do you record?
In about two weeks I'll be in "Da Park".

Hey Darren,

What's the ultimate goal that you and the guys in Dead Men Dream have? A good record deal and a long career? Or more like playing, recording a bit and having a great time doing so?
Personally I hope to see a full length album from you guys. I miss the great lyrics that Anathema and The Blood Divine had. Shame about the Blood Divine btw, I thought you guys were in a class of your own...

Hi Timothy. I just want to write and play good music that makes the hairs on the back of me neck stand on end! Thats the buzz for me. Writing and recording is great when you know that people will get to share the sounds. Maybe then they might share some of the feelings too. Then of course live it is the ultimate, as long as there aren't too many f**k-ups! If an album comes out and I get the chance to tour, then that will be very satisfying, but that is not the first aim. I hope to be recording some more songs with Dead Men Dream by the end of the year, then maybe some gigs. Don't know really. It depends if there is any genuine interst from promoters. Maybe we'll support me old band. That would be nice.

Well that's that then! By the way, I'm doing a show in Australia on 19th September, headlining the Headbangers Ball first night! That's literally all I know at the moment. I'm only in Oz about 8 days and I won't be doing any sightseeing now - just rockin!
Hope the albums going well. About that message from ya about phoning... I would have phoned ya but honestly, phone calls in Vietnam aren't cheap!

I'm imaging now Anathema and Darren playing Sleepless, the way it should be (no disrespect to Vinny, but Darren does it better on Sleepless)
And Sweet Tears...
And Kingdom...
And We the Gods..... :D
