Here are two songs from my band Deadlight. I play the guitar in this band and I also recorded, mixed and partly produced the two songs.

The balance seems to be pretty good. IMO the biggest problem is that the mix lacks punch and bottom. I would definately try to mix it without using any sample replacement. I'm sure you have a killer drum sound to start with! Add some more bottom to the kick and bass, make them work together. Add some 2-bus compression and saturation. Getting the bottom right is definately one of the hardest parts in mixing.

Yeah I agree. I did try 2-bus compression but some reason didn't use it in the mix. Maybe I have to give it a second chance.

Now there's little bit more low end in the songs.

Sounds very Opeth-ish (but not only).

The mix is great. The only thing i noticed is a slight lack of punch/body for the snare. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah and I think the snare and the guitars are dealing with the same area, so the snare gets drowned in the mix.
