How do you skip sweep picking and go straight into vacuum cleaner mode?

Seriously though, what I wanted to really ask was how do you practice faster sweep picking shapes? The middle strings, to be precise.

I'd imagine you feeling right at home with it, especially since it'd make going back to your spaceship after gigs a lot easier.
