Hey everyone, i must confess im a bit of an extreme metal noob, only been into extreme metal since bout march!
I love Opeth, so far i like Emperor, Soilwork, Dark Tranquillity, CoF, Dimmu Borgir, Katatonia, can you guys direct me to some more Melodic Death and Black Metal bands?? Cheers

Dimmu Borgir and CoF are not really extreme metal. They're the p00ssy side of black metal.

Raw Black
Bathory
Mayhem (get Freezing Moon, it's a fucking amazing song)
Burzum
Anorexia Nervosa (they're a strange band...)

Melodic Death
In Flames (best melodic death band EVER)
Killswitch Engage (more hardcore than death metal but you might like them)
Kalmah
Gardenian
Children of Bodom

Raw Death (these are the classic death metal bands)
Morbid Angel
Bloodbath (they're not classic but the sound is)
Vader
Death

Brutal Death
Cannibal Corpse
Carcass
Six Feet Under

Don't know many other, brutal death metal isn't my thing.

Btw, Katatonia is more doom metal than black or death. If you like them, get some My Dying Bride too and Electric Wizard.

At the Gates
Eucharist
Carcass (Heartwork is melodic death metal)
Sigh
Death (Symbolic and The Sound of Perseverance)
Immortal
Dissection

Black metal: Emperor, Darkthrone, Satyricon, old Mayhem, Immortal, Burzum, Dissection, 1349, Gorgoroth etc

Death metal: Death, Decapitated, Nile, Cryptopsy, Dying Fetus, Suffocation, Malevolent Creation, Behemoth, Impaled etc

I dont give a shit about what genres you specifically want, just check out all these bands:

I don't think of Sigh as black metal. The only black metal influence is the voice. They're definitely experimental metal.

You probably havn't heard the Ghastly Funeral Theatre EP.

What a poseur. The guy asks for recommendations and this kid over here floods him with every band he listens to, as if he's 'showcasing' them. :Spin:
