Finally checking out October Tide and realizing I need to get into this whole genre more even if it isn't that much like this.

All I have is early Katatonia and Anathema and then the really death metal leaning ones that barely count like Autopsy and Asphyx. I think I have more funeral doom than death/doom in fact.

I think I prefer the melodic kind like early Katatonia but any recs are welcome. Preferably short lists and nothing too obscure right now because I can't download right now and I don't know any good CD stores in town yet (just started college 2 weeks ago).

Less melody please. ;)

Winter
Moondark
Autopsy
Coffins
diSEMBOWLEMENT
Paradise Lost - Lost Paradise

In addition to the bands Krow mentioned:

Amorphis
Sempiternal Deathreign
Morgion
Dark Millennium

Morgion. Relapse released 'The Relapse Collection' which is a double disk including their first two albums Among Majestic Ruin and Solinari. You should be able to come across this and won't be disapointed. awesome

Favs

Anathema `pentecost III.
Evoken `embrace the emptiness.
Paradise Lost `gothic.
Orphanage `oblivion.
Shape of Despair `shades of,angels of distrees, illusion's play.
Novembers Doom `of sculptured ivy and stone flowers(recently reissued). Also check out their newer albums.
Katatonia `dance of december souls, brave murder day, sounds of decay E.P.
Amorphis `tales from the thousand lakes.
My Dying Bride `turn loose the swans.

Being that you like Katatonia and October Tide check out Daylight Dies -lost to the living, Swallow The Sun and the latest Draconian.

Oh ya I have 2 Daylight Dies albums and 3 Novembers Doom albums, wasn't really thinking about those. Also have some Funeral/Shape of Despair kinda stuff but that would be funeral doom not death/doom am I right? Also didn't like Amorphis' Tales from the Thousand Lakes really when I heard it except for 2 or 3 songs.

And given my situation honestly I'll just end up first listening to whatever is available for free listen through last.fm first, even though that's incredibly limited.

Saturnus - Martyre & Veronika Decides To Die
Doom:VS - Aeternum Vale & Dead Words Speak - This band is the win!
Draconian - Arcane Rain Fell & Where Lovers Mourn

dISEMBOWELMENT - Transcendence Into The Peripheral
Mourning Beloveth - The Sullen Sulcus & Dust
Process of Guilt - Renounce
Virgin Black - Requiem - Fortissimo

Novembers Doom-'To Welcome The Fade'. Easily their best...here's a sample (emotional and fantastic even live):
