Death is simply the best band ever.

He doesn't have to respect them at all... i sure as hell don't.

There are tons of better bands and better musicians out there than rush... there's no REASON to respect them over anyone else.

you have to put it in persepective dude....

sure there are alot more technical, faster, more aggressive players now....it's evolution baby! (awful....i stink)

but how many bands shred Rush in the 70s???
No body sounded like them....
Dream Theater would probably be a crappy Maiden tribute band like Wolf if it wasn't for rush.

They inspired people in rock and metal to push the limits of their playing...

you need to respect them...yes

bands that have a huge history, influenced lots of GREAT bands, and were smthing like living miracles (geddy lee , played bass and keyboards at the same time ...!) deserve some respect .
tons of better bands ?? i dont think so , tell em that they are better than rush ...they will get mad only hearing " hey u are better than rush" ...and probably laught at u ...

Rush does have a lot of talent. Look at Neal Peart. Amazing drummer. There weren't many more like him in the 70s and maybe non. But you're right Trapped, you don't have to respect them, but I'm one of those guys that just respects certain bands, even if I don't like them. But no, if you don't choose to respect someone, that doesn't matter.

No, i DON'T have to respect them.

And yes, this IS getting old.

I don't like Anthrax or Exodus... and they were "Pioneers of thrash" apparantly. I don't have to respect SHIT. I don't need to go and dig up a pile of Black Sabbath records because they were one of the first metal bands supposedly... i don't care... i don't like them, and i don't need to respect them at all.

Hey, i went up to mark from alarum and said "Dude, you guys absolutely slay cynic!" and i didn't get laughed at. Sure, maybe a little bit of chuckle, but hey, i actually LIKE alarum more than cynic. Two different bands.

Back on track now:

Yes, there ARE tons of better bands. You're like Prog's answer for black metal's eletism "Nothing is as good a the first celtic frost album, it's so gritty and emotional" bah, fucking humbug i say. I don't care where it all comes from. Hell, i'm sure at some point shoes were made out of dried cow shit with grass tied around them for laces... that doesn't mean i have to own a pair of cow-shit shoes and put them in a glass cabinet above my bed so i can worship them every night... right? get it? I don't fucking care about rush at all! There are THOUSANDS of better musicians out there. Right now, i can name a number better guitarists and drummers...!

Chuck Schuldiner
Daniel Mongraine (Martyr)
Mark Evans (Alarum - This guy absolutely rips  )
Petrucci
Dave Mustaine
Jeff Loomis
Johan Reinholdz (andromeda)
Michael Romeo

Nick Menza
Van Williams
RICHARD CHRISTY (fucking slays EVERYONE)
Matt from alarum
Lars ( - okay, that one was a joke, sorry)
Thomas Lejon (Andromeda)

Hell, forget writing single musicians, BANDS THAT ARE BETTER THAN RUSH:

Martyr,
Atheist,
Cynic,
Alarum,
Nevermore,
Opeth,
Andromeda
Symphony X
Dream Theater
Testament
Metallica
Megadeth
Psychotic Waltz

And that's just the tip of the iceberg...

I'm just gonna repost this part because you obviously didn't read it.

Jason Rullo and Mike Portnoy are pretty damn good drummers too. Just wanted to say that. Oh, and does anybody know where I can download some Psychotic Waltz, because I have been wanting to hear them for a really long time now, but I can't seem to find anything on them. I like to hear a band before going out to buy a cd.

good luck going out and buying PW CDs....they've been out of print for years...

I think you can actually get copies of them off the oficial site though.....

I'll post 3 songs from three albums on my site and you can download them.....or contact me on AIM or ICQ

"who is better , a guy who has more technical solos, or the one with better melodies in them ? ..."
I believe it's which ever a person prefers. Some prefer melody and some prefer technicality.
N/P:The Beatles-Helter Skelter
