Man...this is some of the best Melodic Death Metal
that i've heard...not many people know this band cause they haven't broken out yet...but seriously this stuff is great.

Yeah ummmm I am always willing to check a band out that might be considered promising but to say that this is some of the best melodic death metal you have heard is a drastic over statement. To me it just sounds not more than average and like a dozen other bands out there who are doing the same thing only better.

Even Arch Enemy and Amon Amarth sound better than these new comers, but hey if you like them its fine by me :)

You don't say...

I did say it's some of the best mdm I've heard...Never said they we're the best, I know that there are other ones that are better.

The debut album from 2003 is better than the EP...but the 3rd track just kicks my ass everytime

not bad as far as mdm goes but then again i dont really like the genre

Yeah they have a fair amount of deathcore influence, plus they sound very obviously Canadian, which I've always found funny about Canadian bands. They're middling imo, nothing really special but not bad to throw on once in a while.

I don't really see that there is anything wrong with the mdm genre. I mean to the untrained ear there isn't a difference between a death metal band like say.......Hypocrisy (well maybe with the exception of "Osculum Obscenum" or "Penetralia") and a "brutal" death metal band like Disgorge. Now as a fan I could say oh yeah there is a big difference between the two. With a band like Hypocrisy (just using Hypocrisy as an example for those who are not fans of the band) there is alot more going on musicly in terms of guitar riffing, drum fills there's a degree of melody. Now with a band like Disgorge (again whoever you may like) they just slam you in the face with BRUTALITY. They don't even try to disguise that they just want to F you up. Now back to my main point, mdm is a nice break at times when there are nothing but Cannibal Corpse tribute bands brutality and you need a slightly less in your face dose of death metal.

BTW anyone have any thoughts about a band called Arkan and their 2008 release called "Hilal" Now there's a "death metal" full of diversity.

No one is slamming the genre as a whole just this specific band. I personally fuckin love melo-death done right. Like Vehemence's "God Was Created" (imo MD done right). But I also get sick of the constant worship of the gothenburg style that has come to define most of the scene.

I just find it boring, in a general sense. I found it boring back when many of the original bands of the genre were at their peak. I heard about At the Gates (I do like SotS a bit), Dark Tranquility and In Flames and was truly expecting to love them. But with each album I tried I found boredom and disappointment.

but I do understand what you're saying about a steady diet of brutal DM. For me, I deal with that by listening to thrash and progressive death metal (which is typically more melodic, without being melodeath), plus a bit of doom and regular heavy metal... and other stuff.

Why do you care about how the untrained ear will perceive the different styles of death metal? And I haven't seen anyone bash the whole melodic death metal genre here...I doubt the not liking Descend into nothingness equates to not liking all bands in the genre.

In fact, I do like some melodic death metal bands...Eucharist, Unanimated, Decameron, Arghoslent, Miscreant, etc... I really fail to see what you were trying to say as we're on a metal forum and there should be no untrained ears. Which is why we can discuss our appreciation of different bands...
