Finally had a chance to come in here since the D666 show.

Just read through the thread ------> (especially at the spot on bathroom jokes - I would've never believed a bathroom like that could exist in such a place).

The show was incredible and I had an absolute blast. The crowd was totally grim and intense (Lurch was dead on, we were cracking up the whole night) and it made for an even better show. We had guys grabbing the microphones screaming "Satanic Speed Metal" after almost every song. We had the microphone cutting out during "Genesis to Genocide" due to pure chaos of 8 zillion wires on a tiny stage coated with spilt Mexican, Canadian and American beverages. (Of all songs to go out on, D'OH!!!!). We had axes and swords hung up on the walls surrounding a poster for Destroyer 666 stating "Phoenix Rising, hell will be unleashed on 6/6/1999". LOL, WTF????

A night of binging, a night of non-stop headbanging, a night of laughing, a night of pure fun.

Always a blast hanging out with each and every one of you. Zod, I wish it could've been better for you, but as you know for every disappointment there's always going to be an Isis or someone else that will come along and make the unknown live experience one to remember. :kickass:

hahahahah ... man, I though that guy was going to be pounded by the band. I really wanted to fucking kill him.
he did it after EACH fucking song ... and not once ... it was like

SATANIC SPEED METAL
SATANIC SPEED METAL
SATANIC SPEED METAL

in a row ...

until they played it, like next to the last song ... as Warslut said, just so this guy shuts up

LOL, it was annoying as hell but given their enthusiasm, awesome at the same time.

Yeah, KK should've improvised the setlist so the guy could start screaming something else like "I'm drunk and stupid - I'm drunk and stupid!!!!"

It was pretty cool - no great shakes. More of a relaxing night after the chaos of the previous evening. We got nice and liquored up on vodka and red bulls (courtesy of Zod after we stopped at the always impressive Vintage Vinyl on the way up) before heading in to catch the last half of Overkill, which we regretted as we were both in the mood for their brand of traditional thrash and slash. Mike Portnoy guested on one of the tracks which was a cool bonus (say what you will about Dream Theater but Portnoy's a monster behind the kit).

We ran into both Christina and Metal Rose in the venue (we ended up sitting in Christina's section most of the evening as it was more centered and there were plenty of seats open in the upper level). We drank some more and caught the last part of Arch Enemy - not bad, but neither of us were in the mood for the music, just checking out Angela. Seriously though, I have to revisit Wages of Sin as it's actually quite cool.

Next up were Opeth - who basically are what they are. If you go to an Opeth show to hear the music in a live setting, they're your band. They recreate the sound extremely well but with each passing time I see them it's painfully obvious that their show simply lacks energy and stage presence. Akerfeldt's genuinely funny between songs but it's not enough to overcome the fact that all he does during the songs is look down at his feet and stand virtually still. BORING!! Aside from that, the sound was great and I was in the mood to hear "The Leper Affinity" so that was cool.

The last band we caught was Lamb of God who basically brought the house down. Make no mistake, they definitely put on a great show and had the crowd eating out of the palm of their hand. I'm not a huge LoG studio fan (sometimes I get into it, but it has to be the right mood), but live they bring it every time. Energy, enthusiasm, stage presence and the right amount of crowd interaction. These guys are getting bigger and bigger all the time, and I can at least say they work very hard at it so kudos to them.

We both decided Megadeth didn't have enough drawing power for us to remain around. We both caught their full set in the front row at last year's version of the show and didn't really have much interest in doing the same from the upper level. Megadeth in their "Rust In Peace" heyday were a must see attraction. Nowadays it's just a "there's nothing better to do" option. The album "Rust In Peace" still slays though.

So, that's it in a nutshell. :)

QFT.

Lots of folks left after LoG. And after having been front row center for Megadeth last year, they were wise to do so. Megadeth just can't compete. Megadeth live, look like what they are; aging musicians whose glory days are well behind them. No energy, no crowd interaction and a shitty setlist. They bored the crap out of me last year when they were following the equally boring Dream Theater. Watching them try to follow the more brutal, more enegetic, more intense, more charasmatic LoG would have been a complete snoozefest. No way it was worth sitting in our seats for 45 minutes waiting for them to come on and then having to fight a parking lot full of people at 1AM. Especially after Friday.

Damn, I wish I was getting to see D666 this time around. Do you think they'll be back again any time soon?

Last I heard, Lurch has 78 pending orders for copies of this show in his Ebay store.

haha, i remember seeing that on their website. I was just taking those few little bits with my point and shoot ... but the now makeupless bassist from ADRATH was right in front of me blantantly filming the complete set on digital video ...

and who the heck makes money anyway anymore selling bootleg videos that can be upped for free on the youtube, etc.?

D666 should have handed out cameras and make sure everyone posts the show on the web.

By far the best aftershow report thread I've ever seen here...the bathroom jokes (my first thought was that there was an overflowing urinal and vomit on the floor that the camera didn't reveal), the flyer with every death metal cliche imaginable, and don't they know nobody bootlegs for profit anymore warning are hilarious...
