Hey

I have a big problem:

I use a hagstrom superswede (equipped with emg81 & 85) plugged into my Podx3l plugged into my PC by USB.

In Reaper I record the Dry Signal delivered by the Pod..

And this signal absolutely sucks! I tried many Amp Sims, but there was never any useful Tone.. I tried to EQ and Compress and all that stuff.. NOTHING!

Am I to stupid to use the Pod or does its "DI-ability" completely suck?

Do I really need a DI-Box plus Audio Interface to get a good sounding guitar?

If useful, I could upload some samples later..

Thanks for helping

No, the POD doesn't deliver world class, professional studio DI tracks, but the DI Tracks you can get with them aren't bad at all. I've gotten tones out of reamped POD DI tracks that are rather good, and so have many other people.
You could either have problems with clipping, or you just need to keep tweaking.

How can you notice that your DI signal "sucks"?

I have the feeling that my signal isn't good aswell.
But i have no clue if it's my Toneport UX1, my guitar or even my monitors.

I just can't all that great tones from ampsims others are getting.

Regards sandra

I used the DI'ed guitars from the Tone Competition 2 (Click) with the TSE X30 Plugin (awesome btw) and it sounded so great! And when I use the Ampsim with the same settings on my DI signal.. :Puke:

Even when I compare the tracks itselves (just DI, no plugin) the ones from the Competion sound much better..

I'm going to post some samples tomorrow..

And then I will give the 18v mod a try.

Thanks so far!

Of course i meant: "I just can't seem to get all that great tones from ampsims others are getting."

Alright that DI tracks sound far better than mine. Louder and more defined. No clue :/

yup..the good di's (like lolzgreg's) seem (to me) to have more snap to them (basically means tight, clear, clean :p )

Thanks for your awnser.

I switch the strings of my guitar too every now and then.

Still i don't know where the secret is.... there isn't even a way to change the input on my toneport.

What pickups do you use?

Regards sandra

Toneports don't suck. I ended up with some of my best guitar tones coming from toneport DIs.

Seriously, listen to this guys.
The POD DIs are not bad by any stretch of the imagination.
If one cannot get a workable sound of a POD DI, there's gotta be a problem somewhere else down the line.
I use active pickups though, which I do believe helps in getting a good DI signal, at least with a POD anyway.

Still don`t get why POD DI sucks...
I have DI with no frequency modification at all so I can get almost exactly the same signal as guitar straight to amp, when reamping.
Compared with this DI, toneport or guitarport have less lows (like low shelf -12 db@500 Hz), but sounds actually better...
So I want to try reduce lows like Line6 do and check result.
BTW, I don`t use screamer, maybe it can give the same result...

My strings are also new (GHS boomers.. don't know the actual name)

I installed the solderless "EMG81/85 Zack Wylde" kit.. I guess there's no way to connect them wrong.. ;)

So, the only thing left that could "f*** my signal" is the guitar cable!?!

Or the guitar itself.. But I refuse to believe that!
I bought my baby two months ago and I love it! ;)

Give us a double tracked rhythm guitar track at least, and put in a rar. format so we download both rhythm tracks to use hard panned left and right.

I would post a DI but i'm too emberassed cause i play shit

Regards sandra

Just practice some riffs, even if it's just really easy riffs, to a metronome for a week or so and then post some up.
I couldn't care less how easy the riff is to play, if you want us to judge the quality of the DI, all that matters is that it's played well:)
