Did I get a great deal or what?

I ran into an old band member of mine and asked if he still played...he said no. I asked if he still had his old equipment....and he replied yeah but I haven't touched it in years.

Among other things, he had an old 1988 Fender Strat(I'm not big into Fender's) but he said he bought it new in 88 and paid $500 brand new so I asked what he wanted for it and he replied $250...with case.

You can imagine how fast I scooped this up...anyway here she is....just needed some cleaning up(TLC) and a fresh pair of strings. 88 Fender Strat American Standard.

A USA 22-fret Strat... very nice! I'd love to have that thing for the occasional lead track. $250 is insane... Haha... You robbed that guy. He could've gotten a lot more than that for it.

$500 new in '88?

That doesn't seem right. The serial # matches the year: http://www.guitardaterproject.org/fender.aspx
It appears to be in excellent condition. I'm guessing it would sell for $800-$900 (ish) on ebay.
Yeah, I'd say you got a deal. lol.

Thanks guys...I love it. I checked with Fender a few days ago here what they said. I have the 22 fret.

another way to round that date down is how many frets it has if it is 1984, 1985 it should be 21 frets if its 1986 to 1988 it will have 22 frets. 1983 to 1985 were CBS years and either way is it worth more than $750
