Did she deserve it?

I also agree with Stormo. What people don't realize nowadays is that words in any form can be hurtful or make someone lose their shit and go nuts. It's similar to people saying, "Oh, it's just the internet...it doesn't matter." Well, it does matter. If someone talks shit to me over the internet, I'm not going to punch my monitor but I've already decided that said person is a dick and I wouldn't want to have anything to do with him in real life; were someone to speak to me like that face to face, I'd probably punch them. Just because it's the internet or text messages doesn't make that person less of a douchebag. People need to watch what they say.
Exactly. Free speech is a very nice concept, but it really should be refined a bit, and include mention of the so-called "fightin' words".

The empathy shown towards the girl might be debatable, but not so much the inappropriateness of the guy's action. But how the hell can you trial a traumatized 15 year old kid that snapped as an adult?

Moveable definitions. There is absolutely no certainty or scale to measure this against. It simply doesn't exist, and whatever suffices is makeshift and often elevated beyond it's status.

She definitely deserved a good smack or at least a shitpie in the face. Skull crushing? No, of course not. That bit from the show is over sympathizing with her though, as if she did nothing wrong in the first place.

I don't condone what he did but he's obviously got some mental stability issues. I also think that they shouldn't try him as an adult; the video shows he's obviously remorseful and can't even remember what he did. Do some time in juvenile and some more time in a mental facility, I say. The girl survived and it was not premeditated.

I don't blame him for retaliating physically. Though, he did just make things worse for himself stomping her dome piece. He was definitely living like he had nothing to lose, and that happens to some people who lose their family. He said in between the text that made him snap and his actions was a time period of 3 hours he had to think. I would have broken her thumbs, there, now the bitch can't text anymore.

It's only premeditated if he put on the "steel toe boots" with the intent of stomping her. and he is a kid, anyone would be unstable after a family member kills himself, and at 15, to lose your older brother. If this kid gets locked up for a long-ass time, i call him following in his brothers footsteps and offing himself. the whole situation is fucked up, I dont think that he knew what he was doing.

It's a part of the American judicial system I simply can't comprehend. How can you judge kids by the same standards as adults for something they did at an age when rampant hormones rule their life and their brains go through drastic anatomic changes, let alone traumatized kids? Makes ZERO sense...

This isn't meant to be another America vs. Europe debate, but at least here in Germany, you'll be tried under juvenile law up unto age 17, no matter the context. And from ages 18 to 21 it's up to the court to decide if a defendant might sill be tried under juvenile law, based on the degree of maturity.

Seems a lot more sensible if you ask me...

Some women don't know when to stop talking and flaunting themselves like they're the hidden key to the universe so the dumb, brash broad got put in her place colonial-style (however a bit too much - he should have just knocked her out and shaved her head instead). But she went to Middle school so that means she was no older than 14? Maybe it's a different kind of Middle School where older kids go there as well? 14 is a bit young. I wouldn't do that to a 14 year old....that's way too young, but if I were 15 who knows.

Stay classy, San Diego.

It's kind of funny that people are claiming the boy's actions were excusable because he's only 15... but the girl is even younger. She was in the middle of an argument, I guess trying to protect her friend, and probably just wanted to say the most hurtful thing she could without thinking of the consequences. But the boy did the same thing. What if her father actually had molested her? Would she then have the right to beat him within an inch of his life? The fact is that one kid used words, the other used physical violence, and only one of those things is a crime. I agree that charging children as adults is a little sickening, especially since that boy looks like he hasn't even hit puberty, but if the question is "did she deserve it?" the answer is absolutely not. People are going to say malicious things in the heat of an argument, and if this kid can't deal with that without nearly killing somebody, he needs to be locked up for a long time.

Welp, sounds premeditated to me. Another thing that bothers me is that she just blew it off and didn't tell anyone. If someone sends me a text msg that they're going to kill me, I'm calling the cops.
