I tried out a Krank Revolution yesterday through the standard Revolution Cab and it sounded good to my nOOb ears. After reading all the topics I could find here regarding Cab's, Speaker types, etc... the general consensus seems to be Celestion Vintage 30's in the Cab. The only real variance is which Cab? I have read that Amott from AE uses the Krank Cabinet with v30's for Live use (http://www.gitaris.com/interview6.p), but for Doomsday Machine I have read that the amps used were Mesa and Krank Rev. Some have said Mesa Cab's for both amps and some have said Mesa and Krank (standard not V30 loaded) respectively. From what I can gather about the Eminence speakers in the Krank Cab is that they are too "harsh" when recording. I have sound samples from Andy from here:
http://andysneap.com/media/speakers/ showing different Cab/Speaker/mic combinations and I also have some samples recorded by Matt Smith (sorry no link, absolutely awesome samples though) with both 5150 and Revolution through Krank Cab and Standard and Oversize Mesa Cabs. Both of these sets of samples are excellent for hearing the difference between the Cabs (although I don't know which amp Andy was using, if anyone can help out, thanks). I was going to try the Rev through the Mesa Cab, but I wasn't exactly sure which Mesa Cab. If you look at the brochure (http://www.mesaboogie.com/catalog/acrobats06/GuitarCabs-6pgs.pdf) there are a couple of closed-back cabs with V30's, eg Stiletto and Recto. They have different weights, so with both having V30's, the difference must be due to extra wood used in construction I'm guessing. How much different would these two sound? I can hear a massive difference between the Mesa with V30's and the Krank with V30's, but in 2 very similar Mesa Cab's how noticeable would it be? Also, I can't find many references to people using Marshall Cabs with V30's on this forum (that being one of the cheapest V30 loaded Cab's). Again I am guessing that this is because they don't produce a solid enough tone compared to the Mesa or Krank Cab? Would the Mesa Recto cab be the better choice over Stiletto? Out of Andy's sound samples I like the Krank with V30's the best, but that is too expensive an option for a Guitarhack like me:oops: so the Mesa would be the most likely option.

I have also tried the Krankenstein but only through a Crate cab with 7080's and didn't like it, probably not a fair test due to the Cab though.

Finally, this sounds like the biggest a**kiss, but I have to say what an awesome forum. To have members willing to share soooo much information, especially the big names like Andy Sneap and James Murphy is amazing. Sabbat's "History of a time to come" and Death's "Spiritual Healing" are in my top 10 albums and your respective playing on these albums is great.:headbang:

Please go easy, I'm a nOOb:oops:
